Operations With Radical Expressions
By the end of class today, I will be able to:
determine if radicals are alike
add and subtract like radicals
multiply radials and radial expressions
Like square roots have the same number under the square root after
they have been simplified.
You can add, subtract, multiply, and divide like square roots.
Not like square roots do not have the same number under the square
root after they have been simplified.
You can multiply and divide not like square roots. You cannot add or
subtract not like square roots
Like Square Roots
Not Like Square Roots
4√3+2√12
√125+3√5 -9√32
We can multiply roots that are not alike. Multiply numbers under the root with other numbers that are also under roots. Multiply numbers that are not under roots with other numbers that are not under roots.
(√5 + 3)(√2 - 7)
(√7 + 4)2
(3√2 + 1)(4√3 -5)
