3/17 – Science Fair
3/24-3/31 – No School; Spring Break
Pesticide application in schools is regulated by Indiana law. RCA utilizes a licensed pest
control service monthly. Some month’s application is not necessary but if so, any pesticide
will be applied on the last Friday of the month after school hours.
Beta News: Thanks to everyone for buying and selling candy bars! We will be selling them on
Fridays through the end of April during each lunch period.
Earth Day shirts are for sale. Flyers have been sent home. If you are interested in a shirt please
contact Mrs. Howard.
Science Fair will be on 3/17 during the school day. There will be an open house that evening for
parents to view all of the projects. The time will be announced closer to the event.
RCA Earth Day Celebration will be on 4/21. I'm in need of people to teach students something
about the environment, Earth, water, soil, plants, or anything else related to the topic. If you are
interested or know someone, please contact Mrs. Howard at school 812-382-4500.
Yearbooks – The 2015-2016 yearbooks are on sale in the office; the cost is $10.
Cruisin’ through ISTEP+ (Spirit Week) - Monday - Giddy Up (and go) to take on ISTEP+
Western wear; Tuesday - Too Cool for the ISTEP+ (60’s, muscle cars) 60’s Shades/sunglasses
attire; Wednesday - Make tracks through the ISTEP+ Boots
Thursday - Sail through the ISTEP+ Sailor/boating attire; Friday - Cars Cruisin’ ISTEP+ is
highway Cars attire
Archery: Congratulations for such a great effort by everyone this past weekend. We had a lot
of improved scores and we showed well at the Schlarman Shootout in Danville, IL. We had
three students place with medals: Brady Kent, Christian Kasinger & Madison Davis. We will
have practice on Monday, February 27, which is required for all going to state. Bring your
Archery Shirt Wednesday to take team pictures. All who will not be going to state will turn in
their shirt at that time. We will have our annual team party on Wednesday, March 1. Please
return all fund raising tickets and money, as we will be drawing for the bow, target and
case. Snacks will be provided on Wednesday. No need to send in anything. All flight times for
State have been made. Everyone going to State will be shooting at 7:30. You need to be there
no later than 6:45 am. If you need directions, etc. let us know. Everyone will need to stay after
we shoot for team medals, pictures and archery shirts, prior to leaving.

DATE CHANGE!!!
The Spring Show has been moved back 1 week. The new date for the show will be Thursday,
April 27, at 9am and 7pm. If you have a child in 3rd thru 8th grade a permission slip will be
coming home with your child for a field trip. We will be going to the Eagle Theater in Robinson
to watch the new Beauty and the Beast movie on April 6th. The cost will be $7.50 and this will
include admission, drink, popcorn and Gummie Bears. Please include the money with your
permission slip. Thank you!
KINDERGARTEN (Mrs. Migliorini)
 Phonics: The letter X. New concepts: reading and spelling consonant x. Identify the
initial, medial, and final sound in words, review vowels and the alphabet, think of words
that contain particular sounds, use kinesthetic response to practice the alphabet, separate
words in compound words, and practice letter recognition, letter sounds, and sight words.
 Language Arts: Question of the Week: What is a lucky adventure? Read high-frequency
words: are, that, do. Vocabulary words: piglet, fox, lucky, filthy, cook, scrubber. Read
and comprehend the story My Lucky Day. Kindergarten Student Reader K.4.2: Our
Musical Adventure. Decodable Story 20: Lad and Me. Review initial and final /l/.
Review /l/ spelled Ll. Assessment - Read the words with /l/: lip, lad, lap, lid, fill, hill, lit,
doll, Bill and high-frequency words: are, that, do. Comprehension Assessment: Identify
Sequence.
 Mathematics: Write number sentences to describe the decomposition of 6 or 7 into two
parts, use objects to show 8 and 9 in two parts, write number sentences that add up to 8
and 9, and use objects to show 10 in two parts.
 March 2nd is Dr. Seuss’ birthday and Read Across America Day. We will be reading
many Dr. Seuss books and doing several different activities for the special day. We will
have a guest reader this week. A big THANK YOU to Mr. Steve Hollis for coming in to
read Dr. Seuss stories to the K-2 students!
 We have library every Friday. Please help your child to remember to turn in his/her
library item. Library items are not due until Friday, but your child may turn in his/her
library item in to me any time during the week.

KINDERGARTEN (Ms. Cox)
 Phonics: Lessons 105-108. New concept with long vowel sounds. Begin coding long
vowels and identifying the vowels.
 Language Arts: Continue practicing sight words: is, have, little, the, a, my, to, am I, we,
my, we, like, he, for, me, with, she, see, look, of, you, they, do, are, that, one, two, three,
four, five; New Sight words: here, from, go; Phonemic Awareness: Letter and sound E, e;
Story: If You Could Go to Antarctica; Amazing Words: Antarctica, icebergs, seals,
continent, penguins, whale; Students will have letters, sight words, and sentences to read
this week to go along with their story and objectives. Please sign and return the
homework sheet each day. Fry’s Word List will be sent home when your child passes
their list in class! Keep up the good work!
 Mathematics: Begin Topic 12 on Measurement.




Each day the students will have behavior chart paper sent home for parents to sign and
return along with their DOJO points.

 Science Fair info went home last week.
 There will be no homework this week or next due to ISTEP
FOURTH GRADE
 Math-We will review our math skills.
 Language Arts-We will be reading the novel, Charlotte's Web for the next 2 weeks and
review grammar and skills.
 Students will need to have 15 AR points by the end of the 3rd 9 weeks for part of their
reading grade.

 Enrichment: This week we will start ISTEP testing. Students will use enrichment time to
read for AR and for study hall. Please get plenty of rest this week!

Reading 3rd/4th- Happy ISTEP week! Students will be testing throughout the week at
different times. 4th grade will be working in their classroom reading Charlotte’s Web.
3rd grade will be working in their classroom focusing on different reading skills. There
will be no spelling this week. Make sure your student gets plenty of rest.

 5th grade Social Studies: We will continue working in Chapter 5 this week. We will not
have a states and capitals packet for this week.
 6th grade Social Studies: We will finish up chapter 5 this week.
 7th grade Social Studies: We will finish up chapter 5 this week.
 8th grade Social Studies: We will begin working in chapter 5 this week. We will not have
a president for the week this week.
MRS. HOWARD
 Homeroom: We will continue reviewing skills we have learned this year.
 Science 5: Students will continue learning about the solar system.
 Science 6: Students will continue learning about the solar system.
 Science 7: Students are making a board game about the chapter to assess what they
learned in the chapter. Then they will play their game and other people's game.
 Science 8: Students will finish up the chapter on classification.
 Enrichment: We will be reviewing area and geometry this week.
