The previous Assessment of SPAN 111 online perfonned in 2010-2011 showed that one core indicator fell below 70%
accuracy: Reflexive verbs. The
Spanish online Program in 2010
was different than the in person
program, presenting difficulties
for students that go back and
forth between the two modes of
instruction. Based on retention
rates and assessment, we
concluded that we needed to reevaluate the online program and
adjust it so the whole Spanish
program-in person and
online-was consistent. We re
designed the entire Spanish
online program using best
practices (Quality Matters

program started in spring 2014.
As a consequence, Reflexive
verbs is not included in SPAN
111 anymore, and it is taught in
SPAN 112. The present
Assessment of2016 shows that
the present tense: ser/estar and
tener fell below 70% accuracy
(this core indicator had been
assessed in 2011 and accuracy
was above 70°/c,). We will
discuss these results during our
coordination meeting with all
instructors to make sure they
address this subject more
extensively and to come up with
strategies to help students better
understand this subject. SPAN
111 online course is QM
certified since spring 2015.
