E. The Statute of Westminster passed in 1931 ended England’s control of Canada’s foreign policy : England could no longer tell Canada how to act with other countries! A good example of Canada controlling its own foreign affairs happened in 1939, when the Second World War started at the end of the Great Depression: Canada declared war on Germany before England did! Today, all Canadians share a proud identity as a country that fought bravely with the Allies in the Second World War (1939 – 1945). But England still had power over some of our laws until 1982. In that year, England finally surrendered its power to make laws which affected Canada by passing the Canada Act.
