ADS-B MANDATE CALL VORTEK AVIATION TODAY AT 832-698-4160 BY THE NUMBERS TO DISCUSS THE RIGHT ADS-B SOLUTION FOR YOU REALITY CHECK 6 3 0 0 0 US AIRCRAFT COULD BE GROUNDED ON JANUARY 1, 2020 1 ADS-B MANDATE MATH ADS-B INSTALLATIONS The FAA passed the ADS-B mandate in 2010, giving the industry 10 years to comply before the January 1, 2020 deadline. The industry paid scant attention to ADS-B during the first seven years of the ten year period, installing ADS-B on fewer than 30,000 aircraft. This failure to act will have significant ramifications. As the following slides show, those that haven't already complied need a reality check. Required Installs Actual Installs as of January 2017 2 ADS-B MATH FOR ADS-B INSTALLATIONS ADS-B FACILITIES & INSTALLATIONS There are approximately 500 avionics facilities in the US. This includes everything from one-man shops to very large avionics operations with satellite offices throughout the US. Facilities Installations per Month On average, along with their normal business, each of these shops can install and certify ADS-B on 4 aircraft/month for a maximum total of 2000 installations/month. With 36 months remaining until the mandate deadline, the avionics industry only has the capacity to install ADS-B on 72,000 aircraft before the deadline. 3 ADS-B MATH PUTTING THE NUMBERS TOGETHER ADS-B REQUIREMENTS VS CAPACITY Aircraft that need ADS-B Industry Capacity With just 3 years left before the deadline, the avionics industry must compress more than 80% of the ADS-B installations into 30% of the time available. That isn’t possible. Even with the avionics industry working at a maximum capacity, industry experts predict that approximately 63,000 aircraft that require ADS-B won’t get it installed before the deadline, and will be grounded on January 1, 2020. 4 ADS-B MATH BOTTOM LINE ADS-B CAPACITY VS NEED As the first quarter of 2017 draws to a close, many operators that require ADS-B still have no plan to meet the mandate, and as a result, the avionics industry is not being pushed to it's maximum capacity. The bottom line is that the actual number of aircraft grounded on January 1, 2020 could be substantially more than 63,000 if the avionics industry continues to operate at less than maximum capacity during the next three years.
