Scientific Name: Callimico goeldii

Physical Adaptations:
Are blackish-brown in color and the hair on their
heads and tail sometimes has red, white, or silvery brown highlights
Goeldi’s monkey are small primates, outwardly
similar to tamarins in both size and shape. Body
length is about 8” to 12”
Are arboreal and usually found in the understory of the tree about 33 feet up at night
Behavioral Adaptations:
They live in small social groups of about six individuals that stay within a few feet of one another most of the time, staying in contact via
high-pitched calls
In general, this species spends most of their
day resting, followed by feeding, foraging, and
traveling
They sleep close together in dense tangles of
vegetation or leaves

dense scrubby undergrowth of the tropical rain forest

Upper Amazon Basin region of Boliva, Brazil,
Columbia and Peru

They have long tails used for balance as they
move through the dense forest. Tail is not prehensile

from one tree, turn in flight, and grab their target.
The species takes its name from its discoverer,
the Swiss naturalist Emil August Goeldi
