Artist of the Week
by Mrs. Fioritto, Art Teacher
This week's spectacular artist is Joanna O'Keefe in first
grade. Joanna did a wonderful job painting her impressionistic fall landscape! In this project, we looked
at the work of French Impressionist painter Claude
Monet and heard a story about his life. The students
made a colored paper background by cutting green
paper and gluing it onto a blue "sky" to show the horizon line. Next they painted clouds, then we looked at
the texture and color in real birch bark and practiced
drawing tree forms. They painted birch trees, then
finished by using Q-tips to mix fall colors right on their
paper as the Impressionists did to create leaves. Great
example of a fun project, Joanna!
