Slavery in the Territories Booklet

Slavery in the Territories Booklet
The issue of slavery in the territories was an important issue starting in 1820, but it became a controversial
issue in the 1850s. You will be creating a booklet that looks at the growing issue of slavery in the territories
through 5 events; the Missouri Compromise, the Compromise of 1850, the Kansas-Nebraska Act, the Dred
Scott decision and the Election of 1856. You will fully explain each event in detail especially focusing on
how these events related to the issue of slavery in the territories. Don’t forget to include important people who
were involved in these events. For 4 of the events there will be a map of the U.S. that you will color to reflect
the issue of slavery in the territories.
Do not forget a key for your map; pgs 362, 479, 481 and 484 in Ch. 17 may be helpful.
