ABOUT GULLIVER
Gulliver Schools, established in 1926, is a non-profit, independent, coeducational, nonsectarian day school serving approximately 2,100 students in Pre-Kindergarten through
Grade 12 with approximately 200 in the Preparatory Campus Class of 2015. Gulliver’s
mission is to provide a superior, personalized college preparatory education fostering
well-rounded, successful, lifelong learners. Gulliver is committed to developing the
unique gifts and talents of each student in a nurturing environment that promotes
academic excellence, innovation, global understanding and character.
The first Gulliver Preparatory graduation ceremony was held in 1977. Since then,
the Preparatory has grown from a total enrollment of 193 students to more than 700
students. With more than 50 countries represented, Gulliver’s student population reflects
the multiethnic character of the South Florida community. Approximately 40 percent
of our student population comes from traditionally under-represented ethnic groups.
Nearly 17 percent of the student population at the Preparatory receives financial aid.
The Preparatory has an educational staff of 110, including three clinicians and six
counselors. Fifty percent of our administrators and faculty hold advanced degrees. The
average class size at the Gulliver Preparatory Campus is 13. There are 194 students in
the Class of 2016.
Historically, 100 percent of our graduates attend four-year colleges and universities.
ACCREDITATION
Gulliver is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Florida
Council of Independent Schools, the Southern Association of Independent Schools,
the Commission of International and Trans-Regional Accreditation and the Florida
Kindergarten Council.
COLLEGE COUNSELING
The goal of Gulliver’s college counseling program is to guide students in choosing schools
appropriate to their interests, where they can build upon the educational foundation of
their years at Gulliver. Students are encouraged to identify and develop special talents.
Each student maintains the same college and guidance counselor for all four years of
Preparatory school. Members of the senior class apply to an average of eight schools.

Grade point averages reflect academic subjects plus the inclusion of any upper level visual/
performing arts conservatory credits. Gulliver does not rank students, but does indicate the
quality of their curriculum and their relative academic achievement in a personal letter of
recommendation. The following weighing system is used in determining GPAs:

curriculum: American Literature, British Literature, World Literature, Biology with
Lab, Chemistry with Lab, Physics with Lab, World History, United States History,
Government, and Economics. World Languages credits must be in the same language
and must be taken at the high school level; lower levels at the Middle School may
count as prerequisites but do not count towards graduation. Twenty of the 24 credits

DESIGN OF CURRICULUM
Seventy-five percent of the student population participates in Pre-International Baccalaureate, Pre-Advanced Placement, Honors, Advanced Placement, and
International Baccalaureate classes. College prep classes serve approximately 25 percent of the students. Students choose from a vast selection of rigorous academic
offerings with over 200 courses including 108 electives (excluding 35 world language offerings). Dual enrollments are available for students who wish to do college
work and have demonstrated exceptional academic potential.
International Baccalaureate Diploma: In 2015, Gulliver Preparatory graduated 43 seniors with the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Approximately 20 percent
of the student population participates in the Pre-IB and IB program and we have a 95 percent IB Full Diploma pass rate over the past 17 years. 55 students in the
class of 2016 are in the IB Program.
Advanced Placement: Gulliver Preparatory offers 28 Advanced Placement courses in all academic disciplines. Advanced Placement examination results for 2015 were:
Total Number of Candidates: 332
Total Number of Exams: 753 AP Scholars: 52
Score of 5: 22%
AP Scholars with Honors: 19
Score of 4: 27%
AP Scholars with Distinction: 41
AP Pass Rate: 85% National AP Scholars: 13
National Merit Scholarship Program: Seven Commended Students, four Semi-finalists, four Finalists, three National Merit Scholars and six National Hispanic
Scholars.
College Admission Tests: Approximately 25 percent of our students come from backgrounds where English is not spoken at home. The Middle 50 Percent Range
for College Admission Test Scores (2013 – 2015) are:
SAT Critical Reading: 500 – 640
SAT Mathematics: 520 – 660

Gulliver Academic Achievement Program: An integral part of Gulliver Preparatory, the Miller Drive Campus was established as a satellite campus to serve students
who require a more individualized learning environment in grades nine through twelve. AAP classes provide a unique, supportive program of studies for students who
benefit from smaller classes and alternative teaching strategies in order to be successful with Gulliver’s college-preparatory curriculum. Students at the Miller Drive
Campus attend core curriculum classes in the morning and then depart at individually arranged times to the Preparatory Campus for lunch, additional academic
classes, and electives. AAP classes taken at the Miller Drive Campus are indicated as such on the Gulliver Preparatory transcript.
SIGNATURE ACADEMIC PROGRAMS
Architecture: Gulliver’s program has been recognized as the finest architecture program
in Miami-Dade County for two decades. The rigorous, individualized curriculum gives
students exposure to a realistic environment in which to implement techniques taught
through design, two-dimensional presentations, and three-dimensional modeling. Students
generate all presentations on the latest release of AutoCAD/Revit software. The course-work
provides opportunities for participation in authentic community-based sustainable proposals
emphasizing restoration, environmental design, and LEED certification.
Engineering: With an emphasis on the application of physics, mathematics, and computer
programming, Gulliver’s Engineering program leads the way in curricular innovation. Students
are challenged with courses that introduce them to civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering.
Students’ projects often extend to supplemental, after-school programs such as The National
Engineering Design Challenge at which Gulliver Preparatory has twice won first place.
Biomedical Sciences: Our Biomedical Sciences program is designed to provide a sound
academic foundation for studies in specific fields such as medicine, biomedical engineering,
and health sciences. Strong research and writing components drive the program. An advisory
board consisting of a team of professionals from medical schools throughout Florida consults
on curricular and pedagogical matters and engages students in real life opportunities in various
medical fields.
The Arts: Gulliver’s program allows students with exceptional talent in the visual or performing
arts to develop their talents within the context of a rigorous academic program. We offer visual
arts and performing arts at conservatory quality levels. Upper division fine arts enrollment is by
recommendation or audition only. Because of the quality and rigor of our arts curriculum and
the quality of our facilities, visual and performing arts classes at the third and fourth year levels
are included in academic grade point averages.
Business and Entrepreneurship: Our newest Signature Program includes a curriculum of
unique coursework in addition to requirements of higher-level Economics and Mathematics
courses. There is a sequence of four classes: Introduction to Business, Entrepreneurship
Honors, International Business Honors and Capstone Project Honors. Participation in DECA
competitions, in addition to guest speakers from the business community, is integral to the
student experience.
