Segment 1: People make a party Overview: Show pictures of parties without any people, i.e. before the guests arrive. Get members to name all the elements that make up a good party. Ask members what is missing from these parties. It’s the people! Later on, make the link between guests at a party and God’s kingdom being made up of people. Teaching Point: The most important part of a party is the people. Materials: Computer, projector and screen to show a slideshow of different parties (see Lesson 12 Slideshow - Parties and Jesus) OR Printed pictures of different parties (See Lesson 12 - Pictures - Parties) Computer, projector and screen Who enjoys going to parties? The most important thing about any party are the people. Show the last slide of people dancing at a party. In this lesson we're going to think about what is the most important part of Gods kingdom. Segment 2: King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream about the kingdom Overview: Retell the King’s dream using the statue made in Lesson 10. Emphasise that the mountain represents God’s kingdom. God’s kingdom is made up of people, like us, who believe in Jesus. Make the link between the previous segment and the fact that God’s kingdom is made up of people. Teaching Point: God’s kingdom is everlasting and we are part of that kingdom if we believe in Jesus. Jesus died and rose so that we could be in God’s kingdom. Topic: Daniel. Lesson 12. !3 Preparation beforehand: 1) Build a tower a couple of metres tall using wooden blocks. Tape the cardboard statue made in Lesson 10 to the wooden tower. During the lesson, smash the statue and let it crumble, just like in the King’s dream. Make sure there is plenty of space between members and the statue to avoid any accidents! If building a tower of blocks is not an option, just tape the statue to a wall. Preparation beforehand: 2) Cut the brown paper into the shape of a mountain. Scrunch up the paper into a ball to represent a stone. The King’s disturbing dream We’ve been learning from Chapter 2 of the book of Daniel. In this true story, God gave King Nebuchadnezzar a disturbing dream. Can anyone remember what happened in the King’s dream? You can give them a hint by showing the cardboard cloud of the King’s dream or reminding members that we saw the dream in the video. The King’s dream was about a statue. Point to the statue attached to the tower of blocks. The statue represented all the kingdoms of the world. Then along came a stone. Hold up the crumpled up brown paper. What did the stone represent? You may like hint at the answer by asking “Did it represent God’s kingdom or Ayers Rock?” The stone represented God’s kingdom. What did the stone do? Answer: Smash the statue. The stone smashed the statue and the statue broke into pieces. Throw the stone at the statue’s feet and make the tower of blocks fall over. What happened to the stone after it destroyed the statue? Gather answers. The stone grew into a mountain that lasts forever. Uncrumple the paper rock so it looks like it has grown into a mountain. In other words, God’s kingdom will grow and last forever. That’s because GOD IS THE TRUE KING OF THE WORLD, not King Nebuchadnezzar or any other king. Hold up the sign “GOD IS THE TRUE KING”. Jesus Club Teaching Upfront Instructions. Topic: Daniel.
