We need you to...
Our programs rely on the help of parent and community
volunteers like you. Becoming a volunteer coach is a
great way to enrich the lives of your children and other
young people in our community. As a volunteer coach you
are a mentor to a whole team of young people, teach skills
and create memories that will stay with your players for a
lifetime. You become an important part of their youth sport
experience. As a head coach, when you register, the fee for
one child is waived once the steps below are completed.
Thank you for taking the time to volunteer with us.
In order to become a volunteer coach you will need to:
1. Complete both sides of this application.
2. Attend or complete the National Alliance for Youth
Sports (NAYS) Coaches Training program. (online fee is
$20 or attend one at the YB for no cost) www.nays.org/
coaches. Coaches NYCSA Certification Trainings at the
IYB: Baseball on Wednesday, March 23, 6:00pm-7:00pm,
Lacrosse on Saturday, March 19, 9:00am-12:00pm and
Softball on Tuesday, April 12, 5:30pm-8:30pm at the IYB.
3. Complete an on-line background check with “Protect
Youth Sports” fee is $12.50, https://opportunities.averity.
com/ithacayouthbb
4. Attend sport specific coach’s organizational meeting.

I, the undersigned, authorize the Ithaca Youth Bureau to check local police records and the NYS Registry for sex
offenders in order to verify my character & ensure a safe program for its participants. I also give permission for the
IYB and/or Friends of the Ithaca Youth Bureau (FOIYB) to use photos/videos/name of me to promote community
awareness in print and web based media. If you wish to not give permission for the usage, you must submit a

use at all IYB program events/functions.
2. I WILL be reasonable in my demands on young participants’ time, energy, enthusiasm and performance.
3. I WILL model inclusive behavior and expect all participants to respect each other regardless of race, sex, or ability.
Furthermore, I will not participate in or allow others to yell at or ridicule a participant for making a mistake.
4. I WILL place the emotional and physical well-being of participants ahead of my personal desire to win.
5. I WILL abide by the Rules of the game/program at all times and impress upon participants that they must also.
6. I WILL remember that the goals of the program are to have fun, improve skills and feel good about oneself.
7. I WILL strive to make this program a positive and enjoyable experience for ALL participants and others (players, coaches,
officials, and parents) around me by treating everyone with respect and dignity, and by teaching participants to do the same.
(If a coach: Furthermore, I will NOT indulge in conduct that would incite players or spectators against the other team or the
officials.)
8. (If a coach): I WILL maintain my composure in both victory and defeat. Furthermore, I will not publicly criticize the officials’
calls or disrespect the IYB Recreation Staff & other volunteers.
9. (If a coach): I WILL remember that I am a youth sports coach, and that the game is for the children and
NOT the adults.
