Reduce condensation and simplify maintenance for longer product life Lighting enclosures are exposed to varying climate conditions that can impact the effectiveness of the product. Water, dirt and dust can also degrade the performance of the lighting unit and create aesthetic and safety concerns. Rapid changes in the external temperature cause dramatic pressure changes inside the lighting enclosure. For example, during a normal power cycle a vacuum of 200 mbar (3 psi) or more can occur inside an enclosure, resulting in extreme stress that creates gaps in the enclosure seals. If the internal pressure is not equalized, the resulting vacuum will draw in contaminants and moisture, increasing condensation and eventually causing the lighting unit to fail. Venting for Protection GORE Protective Vents provide the best solution for equalizing pressure in lighting enclosures and eliminating the vacuum that draws in harmful contaminants and water. The unique characteristics of these vents respond to pressure change by continuously allowing air to enter and exit the lighting enclosure. These vents also provide an effective barrier against harsh weather conditions (e.g., rain, snow, high winds), while allowing water vapor to exit quickly and reduce the likelihood of condensation on the lens. ® GORE Protective Vents provide outstanding protection because GORE Membrane is used in the vent, which is made of proprietary expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE). While the GORE Membrane allows air and gases to flow freely in and out, its hydrophobic and oleophobic attributes prevent any contaminants and liquid from entering the lighting enclosure. The result — equalized pressure and reduced condensation for longer life and more reliable lighting. ® ® ® Gas molecules pass through the membrane. Liquid and particles are repelled. GORE Protective Vents equalize pressure while protecting sensitive electronics ® Realize the Benefits of GORE Protective Vents: ® •Superior protection against condensation and lens fogging due to vapor-permeable membrane •Protection against acid rain, salts and other corrosive liquids due to reliable hydrophobic and oleophobic ePTFE properties •Reduced build-up of hazardous battery gases through continuous diffusion and superior airflow •Easy integration for design and manufacturing with multiple vent options including rugged designs with UV stability •Longer, trouble-free service life due to reduced stress on enclosure seals •Simplified maintenance enabling easy access to the equipment in the electronic enclosure •Superior global technical support and broad application knowledge from Gore’s engineering experts, with over 200 million installations worldwide Diverse Product Line Engineered for Simple Integration GORE Protective Vents are manufactured in many different sizes and shapes, making it easy to choose the right vent for any application. With a diverse product portfolio, these vents are easy to integrate into new or existing designs to meet the needs of a broad range of applications and markets. The versatility of GORE Protective Vents is apparent in both their range of protection and their ease of installation. For example, these vents: ® GORE Protective Vents provide value to a wide array of lighting enclosures including: ® ® • tolerate temperatures ranging from –40°C to 125°C Outdoor decorative lighting Recreational vehicle lighting Industrial/commercial outdoor lighting LED applications • comply with protection standards up to IP69k • provide maximum protection for applications in harsh environments through molded plastic or metal vents • install easily by being adhered, threaded, snapped, bolted or heat/ultrasonic-welded to a variety of enclosure materials • adhere to the device with adhesive backing for applications with insufficient free space to install a vent inside Proven Application Expertise and Experience With almost fifty years in membrane research and technology, W.
