ROOM PARENT – This year the room parties will be planned by the Room
Parents. Since no money was collected at registration for room parties or gifts,
the room parents will need to organize the parties by calling the classroom
families to get parents to donate items.
Two classroom parties (Christmas and Valentine’s Day). At times, they also help

Parents and Teachers in Lutheran School (PTLS)
Constitution
(Approved 5/2008)
Article I. Name
The name of the organization shall be Immanuel Lutheran (PTLS) Parents and Teachers in Lutheran
Schools.
Article II. Objectives
The objectives of this organization shall be:
1. To provide beneficial education programs for the membership.
2. To assist in creating the best possible cooperation between parents and teachers; between
home, school and Church.
3. To support any worthy endeavor of the school which furthers Christian Education.
4. To disseminate knowledge concerning how public policy and trends affect Christian Education.
5. It shall not be a policy making body for the congregation; doubtful procedures shall be clarified by
the Board of Christian Education.
Article III. Members
1. Membership in the organization shall be open to:
a. All parents, who have children enrolled at Immanuel Lutheran School.
b. All teachers, who teach at Immanuel Lutheran School.
2. All members shall be entitled to participate in all the activities of the organization and shall have

the right to vote. In order to carry out the objectives of the organization, there shall be at least
50% on the Board who shall be communicant members of Immanuel Lutheran Church or of a
Missouri-Synod church.
Article IV. Meeting
1. Regular business meetings shall be determined (day and time) by the Executive Board at the
beginning of the school year, but are subject to change. These meetings shall be governed by
parliamentary rules. Special meetings may be held when ordered by the organization or called by
the Executive Board.
2. Business of a meeting may be transacted at any regular or special meeting, which has been
announced one week in advance.
Article V. Dissolution
In the event of a dissolution of the organization, the Executive Board shall turn over funds and property
entrusted to the organization to the treasurer of the congregation who shall hold both or use as the
organization directs in its final meeting, subject to the approval of the congregation.
Article VI. Amendments
Articles of the constitution may be amended by a vote of three-fourths of the members present provided
such change has been announced one meeting in advance.

Article I. Election of Officers
1. The officers shall be elected by ballot from a list of candidates prepared by the Executive Board.
The list of candidates should consist of at least two candidates for each elective office. Additional
nominations may be made from the floor with prior consent of the nominee. The nominee will be
considered elected carrying a plurality of members present.
2. The election of officers and installation of officers should be held the last meeting of the school
year.
3. The President and Vice-President shall hold office for one year. The Vice-President will be
President the following year.
4. The secretary and treasurer shall hold office for two years and shall not succeed themselves.
5. Elections shall be held each year for Vice-President and every other year for secretary and
treasurer.
Article II. Duties of Officers
President -- the president shall preside at all meetings for the organization and of the Executive Board
and shall perform such other duties as usually pertain to the office.
Vice-President -- The Vice-President shall, in the absence of the President, perform the duties of the
President. The Vice-President shall act as parliamentarian. The Vice-President should work in close
partnership with the President.

Secretary -- The Secretary shall keep a record of the proceedings of the organization, conduct the
correspondence of the organization and perform additional duties as may be prescribed by the Executive
Board.
Treasurer -- The treasurer shall collect any money payable to the organization. Funds may be disbursed
by him/her when authorized.
The forenamed officers, with consultation of the Principal, shall deliberate upon all matters prior to each
meeting. It shall be the duty of the Board to arrange the business of the meeting, including arrangements
of devotions, program, budget, and nominations.
Article III. Committees
1. All committees and committee chairmen sign up will be on Registration Day.
a. An Appreciation committee shall make arrangements for Secretary Day and
Teacher Appreciation week.
b. A Festival Committee shall plan and coordinate special events that have been
approved by the PTLS.
c. A Fun Fair Committee shall plan and coordinate ILS Fun Fair Day in June
d. Fund Raiser committee shall plan and coordinate fund raisers as needed for the
school.
e. A Playground committee shall plan and coordinate new playground equipment.
Also, when needed coordinate a work bee for repairs and maintenance.
Article IV. Audits
The treasurer's books and records shall be examined prior to the new school year by the school secretary
or an appointed committee. The school secretary or an appointed committee shall report to the
organization in the first meeting of the school year.
Article V. Amendments
The by-laws may be amended by a 2/3 vote of the members present at any regular or called meeting,
after the amendment has been submitted at a previous meeting. Any motions from the floor shall be for
the current year, unless the amendment is made to the constitution.
Article VI. Ratification of Resolutions
All resolutions which are adopted by this organization are subject to ratification by the congregation's
designated governing board.
Article VII. Order of Business
1. The following business shall be conducted:
a. Opening devotion
b. Welcome to visitors and new members
c. Secretary's report
d. Roll call (may be done in any manner desired)
e. Treasurer's report
f. Committee reports, including reports on the school
g. Unfinished business
h. New business
i. Adjournment
