HRE 10 Culminating Assignment: Summary and Analysis of Themes
Portfolio: a collection of writings and illustrations that represents the “big ideas” (themes) of the religion
course.
Guidelines: The portfolio covers:
a) the unit on the Old and New Testament and
b) Units 1 through 5 of Be With Me.
Format:
a) Booklet: Includes a table of contents and six chapters. A summary of each unit will consist of
one or more pages and include a title indicating the theme, written reflection of about 150
words answering the content questions and an appropriate illustration from a magazine,
newspaper, internet or a hand drawing.
b) Response to Newspaper Article(s): Use the booklet format to answer the content questions
in response a newspaper article.
c) Cube: Build a cube with each side devoted to one unit. Creativity is needed in organizing
illustrations and briefly but accurately answering content questions. Your teacher has a
template for building the cube.
d) Essay: Write an eight paragraph essay of about 750 words with: 1) one paragraph introducing
the topic and a thesis statement of what you learned in the whole course; 2) six paragraphs,
one for each of the six units, focusing on the importance of each theme to your thesis; 3) a
concluding paragraph briefly summarizing the content of 2).
e) Power Point presentation: Create a presentation similar to the booklet for a 10 minute oral
presentation to class.

Process:
a) Time will be made available in class during the week of Monday, May 28 to Friday,
June 1to complete much of the assignment, particularly the rough notes.
b) At the end of each period, the rough notes will be approved by the teacher.
c) The rough notes shall form the basis for all text which, in turn, shall be word
processed (at home or at school) or very neatly written.
d) Credit shall be given to sources of ideas and illustrations not belonging to the student.
