• Vile – extremely unpleasant or nasty
• Unwieldy – difficult to carry or move
• Analogy – comparison between two things
• Imagery – the use of vivid, descriptive
language to add depth to writing
Act II terms
• Irony –
• Dramatic irony – when the audience knows
something characters do not
• Situational irony – when something occurs that is
the opposite of what was expected or intended
• Verbal irony – when a character says something
that is the opposite of what they mean
• Monologue – a speech given by a single character
to the audience
• Soliloquy – a speech a character gives to
himself/herself (thinking aloud)
