We have given a massive warm welcome to three new members of staff. Let us introduce them to you: Fundraising for Ulverston Youth Work is a necessity as money is very hard to come by. The team work hard writing funding bids to various funders. In 2010 we were lucky enough to receive money from ‘Sir John Fisher Foundation’, ‘N2N’, ‘Frieda Scott’ and ‘Garfield Weston’. Toyah Newman Louise Wilson Dan Thompson In August we had a massive shock, we sadly and suddenly lost Deyanne. She has been greatly missed. Deyanne was very passionate about her work with young people and played a huge part in many peoples lives within Ulverston. Deyanne will never be forgotten! Croftlands Play Area Community Afternoon The youth work team and young people of Ulverston did a fabulous job consulting with members of the community and South Lakes housing to secure a brand new and exciting play area for Croftlands. A group of 8 young leaders from Feature Youth Club planned and organised an afternoon community event in May. Over 100 children were involved with choosing equipment for the new park. The park is due to be installed in 2011. 40 people attended for an afternoon of tea and coffee, indoor bowling and bingo! The young people organised the afternoon whilst at the Tuesday night evening sessions at Ulverston Youth Base as part of an intergeneration project. New Club Congratulations Feature Youth Club volunteer Jenni Keeble is hoping to launch a new younger youth club in February half term. The club will be for ages 6-8 on a Friday evening at Croftlands Community Centre. A massive well done goes to Andrew Rattigan - Andrew won the ‘Young Cumbria Myles Walker Outstanding Contribution Award’ in 2010. He was nominated anonymously and was overwhelmed to win such an award. Keep your eyes peeled for further information. The Santa’s Grotto provided a great funding opportunity, and thanks goes to those who were involved. A special thanks must also go to Georgia Bell who completed a two week sponsored silence within school. She raised £80 for Feature Youth Club. This must have been extremely hard for Georgia because she is a very chatty person. Thank you also goes to Café in the Forest at Grizedale, who supported Natalie from Feature with a biscuit decorating activity during a Christmas weekend. Natalie raised £53 for the youth club If you are interested in supporting youth work within Ulverston please contact us as we always need extra funding to keep the clubs pushing forward and developing opportunities for young people in Ulverston and the surrounding villages.
