Tank 8 Inspection
Date of Inspection: 7-14-2016
Inspector: Curtis Stewart API 653 #973
Tank Built: 2011
Manufacturer: Palmer of Texas
Capacity: 210 BBL
Serial Number: #25817
Standard: API 12F Modified API Monogram 0067
Pressure: 16oz
Materials: Floor ¼’’ A36. Shell 3/16’’ A-36 Deck(Roof) 3/16” A-36
Interior: Interior is on good condition. Coating has isolated failed areas. UT readings of the floor found a general
metal loss of 10 to 24 mils based on a original 0.250’’ datum plate thickness
Shell: Tank has failed coating in the bottom 6-12 inches. UT of this area found loss of 2-4 mils based on the
datum plate thickness of 3/16’’
Recommended:
Interior: Tank liner is in good condition. Isolated areas of lining failure will require repair. Liner type has not yet
been discovered and lining should not be repaired unless the lining type is found. Repair with another
manufacturer system or with the incorrect Themic system can result in failure and accelerated corrosion of the
repaired area(s).
Exterior: Blast 2 feet of the bottom course and install new approved atmospheric coating system. Spot blast and
repair failed paint with approved atmospheric paint system. After blasting the outside the bottom corner
(chime) weld should be inspected for corrosion loss and acceptability of filet size.
Tank Bottom & Containment: Tanks are setting on 6-inch-thick concrete pavers. These go under the tank to
support the bottom. The containment is steel and setting on the ground. The condition of the steel containment
under the concrete pavers cannot be determined. If the tanks are to be returned to service it is recommended
the tanks and concrete pavers be removed and the steel inspected to determine continued service. The
condition of the steel coating is poor. The containment would require relining with a suitable external UV
resistant coating.
Deck(Roof): The tank thief hatch should have the gaskets replaced and the pressure vacuum springs changed to
a chemical resistant material. The threaded connections should be removed and the threads evaluated. During
coating the threads should be coated and inspected prior to re-installing new connections.
