Vukovich, A&PS-SF-WW Subject : Coca Variance with the State of Californi a Dear Mike : Rocketdyme received word this morning from the Los Angeles office of .the California Division of Industrial Safety, Mr . C . Stiles, Sr . Safety Engineer, Los Angeles Region, that the proposed plan to modify and operate the Coca Area for SSI-IE subsystems testing has been given tentative approval . The approval is an acknowledgment by that office that their requirements and those of the Pressure Vessel Section in San Francisco will be satisfied by Rocketdyne . As we understand the situation, the official irritten approval can come only from the State Industrial Safety Board . This body is made up o f four members appointed by the Governor plus the Director of the Department of Industrial Relations . It appears that this final approval step is primarily administrative in nature . The fact that the cognizant office ( Los Angeles) of the Department of Industrial Safety has presently given verbal approval should provide adequate assurance for proceeding with construction activities .
