COURSE DESCRIPTION AND SCOPE
Sociology is an elective course that studies human society and social behavior. Positive human
relationships are an essential part of a civilized society and how we interact with each other is important
so that we can find answers to questions and solve problems in our world. “Sociology teaches us to look
at life in a scientific, systematic way.” . This course deals with the social atmosphere that helps to make
us who we are and how we behave. Sociology will cover topics such as culture, violence, deviance, social
control, socialization and personality, group behavior, social class, and social institutions. The key
component of this course is to study ourselves and the society that influences our behavior.

GRADING - Grades are divided into 2 components: Major and Daily
*DAILY= 30%
1.
*MAJOR=70%
Daily Work (Daily grade): May include but not limited to: Graphic organizers, reading
prompts, discussion, written assignments, vocabulary development, textbook
skills, classroom participation and exit tickets. ALL assignments will be graded
from a scale of 0% to 100%.
2.
Quizzes (Major grade): Announced and unannounced. 50 points max.
3.
Tests (Major grade): At the end of every unit. Composed of multiple choice, matching, short
essays.
4.
Projects (Major grade): Will be announced.
5.
Make Up/Late work: It is your responsibility to get ANY missed assignment via classmate or
teacher. For daily grades, 1 day late= 70% ; 2 days= 50%and 3 rd
days=0%. For major grades, every day missed= 10% points thus have a
max of 5 days to make up major grade.

TARDIES/PROCEDURE:

There is zero-tolerance for tardies.
2.
10 minutes late is equal to 1 unexcused absence.

3 unexcused tardies equals automatic referral
BEHAVIOR AND STUDENT EXPECTATIONS
1.
Please remove hats, beanies, sunglasses, refrain from personal grooming during class.
2.
Profanity is unacceptable. Continuous behavior will result in “U” for conduct.
3.
Respect teacher, classmates, property, self. Remember- TIGER PRIDE!!
4.
Absolutely no eating and non seal-able drinks are allowed in the classroom
