Online Banking Security The First National Bank of Beeville values the security of your online account information, and we want you to be aware of the critical role you play in keeping it secure. We take certain steps to enable your secure connection to online banking. There are also additional steps you must take to prevent unauthorized access to your accounts. Our Security Measures 1.) Computer registration As part of our security system, you must answer challenge questions when logging into online banking. You may elect to register your computer (dropdown menu below the challenge question) to bypass the challenge question on subsequent visits from the same computer. You should only register a computer which is not accessible to the public. Tip: You may be periodically asked challenge questions even after registering your computer. Also, if cookies are cleared in your browser, you may have to re-register the computer. Tip: You can change your challenge questions and answers at any time from the “OTHER SERVICES” > “Change Image/Questions” page within online banking. 2.) Security between your computer and our servers When information is transmitted between your computer and our online banking servers it is encrypted to prevent anyone in between from being able to read it. Encrypted connections like this can be verified in your browser by a padlock symbol. The website address should also begin with “https”. The “s” stands for secure. 3.) Inactivity timeout After 15 minutes of inactivity in online banking, you are automatically logged off. This reduces the risk of someone else accessing your account while your computer is unattended. 4.) Password lockout After 3 invalid login attempts, your account is locked out until the following day. You may also call us to unlock your account sooner if necessary. This helps prevent someone else from guessing your password. 5.) Password requirements Your online banking password must be a minimum of 8 characters and contain at least 1special character and at least 1 number. It also must not contain your user ID, first name, or last name. This helps prevent someone else from guessing your password. Page 1 of 4 6.) Account number masking Only the last 4 digits of your account number(s) are displayed in online banking. This prevents someone else viewing your account numbers while logged in. Your Security Measures 1.) Be careful of requests for your personal information We will never contact you to ask for your user ID, password, or other personal information. Some email and telephone scams will attempt to get you to disclose personal information. The scammer then uses the information to access your accounts or commit other fraud. We will only ask for personal information if you call us to get information about your account(s). 2.) Protect your computer One of the most important ways of preventing unauthorized access to your online accounts is to keep your computer free of viruses and spyware. This malicious software can be used to record and transmit your login information and other personal data. 1.) You should have an antivirus program installed AND keep it updated. New viruses and spyware spread continuously so updating is critical. 2.) You should install the latest security updates for Microsoft Windows®, Adobe Flash Player®, Adobe Reader®, Oracle Java®, and other programs. Microsoft Windows® updates are available through the update.microsoft.com website. For other software vendors, please refer to their website for update information. 3.) You should have a firewall running on your computer. Microsoft Windows® has a firewall included but you should verify that it is enabled or that another firewall is installed. 3.) Protect your user ID & password You are responsible for the security of your user ID and password. You must not disclose your user ID or password to anyone not authorized to access your account. You should memorize your login information so it is not written down. Tip: You can change your user ID at any time from the “OTHER SERVICES” > “Update Personal Info” page within online banking. Tip: You can change your password at any time from the “OTHER SERVICES” > “Update Personal Info” page within online banking. 4.) Set email alerts Page 2 of 4 Alerts can be sent to your email address when certain online banking events occur. Some of the available events include transactions over a certain amount, account balances below a certain amount, and when your online banking account is accessed. Please follow the two steps below to enable email alerts. 1.) Verify your email address information is correct on the “OTHER SERVICES” > “Update Personal Info” page in online banking. Please allow at least one business day for any changes to become effective. 2.) Set your email alerting options on the “OTHER SERVICES” > “Add/Edit Alerts” page. 5.) Log Off You should click “Log Off” when are finished with your online banking session. This reduces the risk of someone else accessing your account while your computer is unattended. 6.) Liability for Unauthorized Transfers Tell us AT ONCE if you believe your online banking user ID or password (credentials) has been lost or stolen or if you believe that an electronic funds transfer has been made without your permission. Telephoning is the best way of keeping your possible losses down. The following limitations may be applicable to your account(s). You could lose all the money in your account(s) (plus your maximum overdraft line of credit). If you tell us within two (2) business days after you learn of the loss or theft of your credentials, you can lose no more than $50.00 if someone uses your credentials without your permission. If you do NOT tell us within two (2) business days after you learn of the loss or theft of your credentials, and we can prove that we could have stopped someone from using your credentials without your permission if you had told us, you could lose as much as $500.00. Also, if your statement shows transfers that you did not make, including those made by online banking or other means, tell us at once. If you do not tell us within sixty (60) days after the statement was mailed to you, you may not get back any money lost after the sixty (60) days if we can prove that we could have stopped someone from taking the money if you had told us in time. If a good reason (such as a long trip or a hospital stay) kept you from telling us, we will extend the time periods. 7.) Business accounts are at higher risk If you have a business account, you should be aware that you are more likely to be a target for account takeover attempts. We strongly encourage you to periodically evaluate your risk, review the security measures listed above, and verify they have been implemented. If you use our ACH Origination service, there is no limitation of your liability for ACH transactions originated from your account(s). 8.) Contact us If you believe that your credentials have been lost or stolen or that someone has transferred or may transfer money from your account without your permission call us at one of the phone numbers below.
