INTRODUCTION This guide provides instructions for replacing cathode ray tube (CRT) monitors with liquid crystal display (LCD) monitors. Drop-in upgrade kits are available for 17” and 19” slant-top and upright cabinet IGT games. Vision Pro LCD Upgrade Kits are available with a 19-pin non-advanced video platform (AVP) connector or a 25-pin AVP connector. 2. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS/FIRE & SHOCK HAZARDS • • • • • Always unplug the alternating current (AC) power cord from the AC power source before attempting to remove or reinstall any component or assembly; disconnect printed circuit board (PCB) plugs or connectors; and connect any test component in parallel with an electrolytic capacitor. Always check that the screw, components, and wiring have been correctly reinstalled. Do not try to replace any related parts if there are any uncoated or melted wires. When replacing the chassis, always be certain that all protective devices are installed properly. When the monitor is operating, do not touch any heat sink on the chassis as it is self-heated. 3. GETTING STARTED Ensure the following parts are contained within the kit: • • • • • • • • • LCD chassis for 17” or 19” games (slant-top and upright cabinets) 19-pin AMP Connector (non-AVP), or 25-pin AMP Connector (AVP) Bezel, if required Bracket, required Controller if purchased as a Touch Screen and Controller Kit Two 6/32 x 3/8” Phillips Pan Head Screws (provided with Touch Screen and Controller Kit), part number MS-.1332.37PPHSTBB Two M3 x 5mm Phillips Pan Head Screws (provided with Touch Screen and Controller Kit), part number MMS-35PPHSTBP Adapter Cable for 3M Microcontroller (only if no controller needed) Netplex Controller, if required 4. TOOLS REQUIRED • • 9/32” Nut Driver P1 Phillips Screwdriver (888) 289-4277 INSTALLATION GUIDE VISION PRO LCD UPGRADE KITS Page 1 April 2008 Revision 1 5. DEFINITIONS • • • • AMP Connector (i.e., Beau Plug or S Plug). For the purpose of this guide, a 19- or 25-pin connector designed to upgrade to LCD from CRT. Heat Sink. Area that absorbs and dissipates heat from another object using thermal contact (either direct or radiant). Microcontroller. Low-power, embedded computer that controls the features of the game. Non-advanced Video Platform. Platform that is not PC based and contains no hard drive. 6. FIGURES • I think it would be good to include pictures of, at least, two of the Beau Plugs as an example as to what could be included in the kit. Is there anything else that you would like to include? (888) 289-4277 INSTALLATION GUIDE VISION PRO LCD UPGRADE KITS Page 1 April 2008 Revision 1 7. INSTALLATION OF AMP CONNECTOR (I.E., BEAU PLUG/S PLUG), WITH OR WITHOUT CONTROLLER Remove packaging from LCD and expose back of the LCD panel assembly. Locate the mounting studs on the back of the LCD chassis, left-hand side, and mount the Beau Plug bracket to the mounting studs. Connect ground wires to the free mounting stud. Completed installation of LCD Beau Plug connected to mounting studs in step, and ground wiring connected to free mounting stud in step. Attach the controller board next to the analog/digital (A/D) PCB by A positioning the top of the controller board underneath the brackets and, using the two 6/32 x 3/8” Phillips pan head screws, screw in place, and screwing in the bottom of the controller board, using the two M3 x 5mm Phillips pan head screws. Connect the interface cable (silver). Plug the 5-pin connector to the controller PCB location CN203. Plug the 2-pin power connector to the controller PCB location CN204. Connect the power supply plug into the power supply located below the controller board. Plug the DB-15 connector to the blue VGA port on the A/D PCB, bottom center. Mount the controller cable to the mounting stud on the A/D PCB and inspect and arrange the cable for proper fit inside the chassis frame. NOTE: When installing the kit into the game, verify proper spacing between the front of the LCD and the door. Both the 17” and 19” monitors have adjustable shelves. Adjust mounting as necessary so that no excess pressure is applied to the LCD (see section 10). (888) 289-4277 INSTALLATION GUIDE VISION PRO LCD UPGRADE KITS Page 4 April 2008 Revision 1 9. INSTALLATION USING EXISTING 3M CONTROLLER Repeat steps in section 7. Connect the harness to the controller board by connecting harness, pin A, with 3M controller board, pin A. Connect harness, pin B, with the interface cable (silver). Plug the 2-pin power connector to the controller PCB location. Plug the 5-pin connector to the controller PCB location. A B (888) 289-4277 INSTALLATION GUIDE VISION PRO LCD UPGRADE KITS Page 5 April 2008 Revision 1 10. INSTALLATION INTO IGT GAME SHELF Drop-in converted LCD chassis and ensure the Beau Plugs connect. Close door slowly and check for proper fit (i.e., no gaps) between the bezel (mask) and LCD. If there are gaps between the bezel and LCD, adjust shelving, as necessary, by A B loosening the screws on both sides of the underside of the shelf, and moving the screw in and out on the front of the shelf to readjust the shelf as needed, ensuring that there are no gaps between the bezel and LCD.
