2015 Floral Design Career Development Event
Hosted by College of DuPage Horticulture Department
Date/Location:
Thursday, March 12, 2015 on the College of DuPage campus in the Technology Education Center (TEC)
Building. Check in will take place in TE1038 from 8:45 – 9:15 a.m. followed by a welcome and
explanation of the contest from 9:15 – 9:30 a.m. The contest will begin at 9:45 a.m. Maps and directions
are available at: http://cod.edu/about/maps_and_directions/local_map.aspx (local map);
http://cod.edu/about/maps_and_directions/full_campus_map.aspx (campus map.) A limited number of
parking places are available directly to the north of the greenhouse on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Additional parking is available in lots Fawell D or E and College 6.
Registration:
Please RSVP to Judy Burgholzer at [email protected] no later than Monday, March 2 for one team of 5
students. The cost is $15.00 per student or $75 per team. All five individual scores will count toward the
team score. Beginning Tuesday, March 3 (not before!) we will accept up to 3 additional students per
school on a first-come, first-serve basis until we reach a total of 72 students for the contest. These
additional reservations will be accepted until end of the day on Thursday, March 5. The extra students
will compete for the experience but will not be eligible for awards; cost is also $15.00 per student. You
will be notified by email if we have room for your 3 extra students. Substitutions are allowed on the day
of the contest if a student is unable to compete, but no additional students can be added after March 5.
No registrations will be accepted after March 5! Please bring payment (cash or check only) to the
contest. Make checks payable to College of DuPage. We are unable to accept credit cards. You will need
to pay for all registered students, even those who are unable to come at the last minute as supplies will
already have been ordered.
What to Bring:
Contestants must supply their own tools: knife and/or pruning shears, scissors, wire cutters, #2 pencil,
calculator (no smart phones may be used.) All fresh materials/containers for the corsage and arrangement
will be provided.
Contest Materials:
The following items follow: Agenda, Design Contest Categories, Corsage and Arrangement Score Sheets,
Identification List, and a link to Dropbox where you can access arrangement, corsage and wiring method
photos. The Study Guide is attached as a separate document, and a food order form is also attached if you
wish to purchase lunch for your team.
Please send all student names for the contest to me by March 5 to facilitate registration and
preparations. Substitutions can still be made, but it helps greatly to have as much student
information as we can prior to the contest.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns regarding the contest. I hope you and your
students will be able to attend!
