A Legacy of Compassion
Friend of Animals,
Please consider leaving a legacy of compassion. Including the Quad City
Animal Welfare Center in your estate planning allows you to make a profound
and lasting impact on the future of our life saving programs. It also ensures
that your generous spirit will continue to help us rescue and rehome countless
animals in need.
When naming the Quad City Animal Welfare Center in your will, you may leave
a specific dollar amount, a set percentage of your estate, or a particular
property. You may also name the Quad City Animal Welfare Center as the
beneficiary of your retirement plan, life insurance policy, bank account,
mutual fund, charitable remainder trust, or charitable lead trust. Each of these
options may help you reduce your estate taxes.
Quad City Animal Welfare Center is a DBA (Doing Business As) name. Our
legal name is the Humane Society of Rock Island County. Our tax ID number is
36-2952894.
Please let us know if you have included the Quad City Animal Welfare Center
in your estate planning so we may thank you and celebrate your generosity.
Feel free to contact me with any questions. I would be happy to help!
A sincere THANK YOU!

WELCOME NEW CAT CARE MANAGER AMBER
After many
dedicated
years (17.5 to
be exact!) Cat
Care Manager
Heidi Moss left
the shelter in
late April in
order to
pursue her
dream of
running a small
business with
her family.
Over the years, Heidi cared for countless kitties and
helped many people in distress by taking in their cats
when they were no longer able to care for them.
One special cat she cared for that touched all of us was
Hope. You may remember Hope’s story. As a kitten in
the late ‘90s, Hope was seriously abused. Heidi lovingly
cared for her as her injuries healed, and realized she was
meant to adopt Hope, who just passed away in 2015.
Just like Hope was always meant to be Heidi’s, we think
Heidi was always meant to spend part of her career at
the shelter. She first got involved with the shelter as a
volunteer, and was offered a full-time position when one
became available because of her passion for homeless
cats.
Although Heidi is leaving the shelter as an employee, she
plans to regularly visit to spend time with the shelter
cats and to catch up with the friends she has made here.
At home, Heidi and her husband have two QCAWC cats:
Armani and Tabby. Armani became homeless when his
owner lost their home and Tabby was born as a stray
kitten to a feral mother. Now, both of these cats have
the best life a cat could want!
Amber has grown
up loving animals,
and as a teenager
decided to start
tackling the cat
overpopulation
problem. She began
practicing Trap,
Neuter, Return
(TNR) with cats
dumped at a
relative’s rural
property to achieve
a goal of no more
kittens born in the
wild there.
It was a big success — the existing cats were happier
and healthier, and no more were added to the
population. That experience lead to a long-term
passion of helping community (stray or feral) cats who
live outdoors. At age 16, she began volunteering with
us at Quad City Animal Welfare Center.
Now, she has stepped into a new role, and has hit the
ground running! Among her many responsibilities,
Amber is in charge of accepting cats into the shelter,
coordinating feline fosters, and cat adoptions. We are
very excited to have Amber on our team as an
employee and know the shelter cats are in very capable
hands.
Save the Date:
Monday, July 25 at
Jake O’s Grille
While we will miss seeing Heidi every day, we are excited
that she is going to continue visiting the shelter, and we
are also very excited about welcoming new Cat Care
Manager Amber Simmon.

Adorabull Pit Bull Mixes Looking for Homes!
Right now we have many great dogs
looking for homes, including a few pit bull
mixes!
Bacon is looking to be your only pet, but
he has a huge heart and will fill your
home with love! Bacon is 4 years old and
part lab.
Marley will turn one in October and this
older pup is playful and sweet. He needs
a home without kitties but has been
around other pooches.
Jango turns one year old in June and is a
sweet dog who loves playing with toys
and likes other dogs.
We are hoping these handsome pups will
be home before summer kicks off. Please
tell people looking to adopt about them.
Bacon, Marley, and Jango are all pit bull mixes at Quad City
Animal Welfare Center who are looking for homes! These
photos were taken by QCAWC volunteers Jonna and Lisa of
Freeze Frame Photography. We can’t thank them enough for
taking great photos of our adoptables and also spending time
with them as they wait to be adopted!
