‘MY BOYFRIENDS’ DOGS’
SYNOPSIS
Bailey Daley runs through the pouring rain toward the shelter of a diner on a stormy night.
Dressed in a wedding gown and toting three dogs behind her, Bailey is an odd sight for diner
owner Louie and waitress Nikki, who reluctantly let her inside with her dripping wet dogs even
though the diner is about to close. Nikki kindly lets Bailey sit down to dry off and Bailey begins
explaining her predicament to the pair, while other diners linger around them.
Bailey starts at the beginning of her story—when she moved into her first new house. With the
help of her mother, Dina, and best friend, Amber, Bailey unloads her things into a charming
bungalow she always dreamed of buying. Bailey muses that now she almost has it all—a
beautiful house, a great job as an English teacher, a supportive mom and friend—but she is still
missing romance. She vows to find a man to complete her future.
It isn’t long before she meets Wade, the handsome new substitute gym teacher at the high
school where Bailey and Amber teach. Bailey is immediately attracted to Wade and discusses
asking him out with Dina. Bailey doesn’t have to make the first move, though, after running
into Wade and his golden retriever, Adam, at the school on a weekend. Bailey is a huge dog
lover, and loves meeting Adam, a goofy, high-energy pup. Wade asks Bailey if she’d like to run
with them sometime and she accepts—although she is horribly unathletic.
After a tough run, Wade invites an exhausted Bailey out for burgers. They get to know each
other and Wade confesses he loves garage sales—just like Dina. Bailey takes Wade to meet
her mom, but Dina isn’t as impressed with this new guy as her daughter is, sensing his charm is
just an act. As Wade and Bailey start dating, both Dina and Amber notice he is more than a
little flirty with everyone he meets. Dina worries Bailey is trying too hard to please her new
boyfriend, especially when Bailey agrees to run a disastrous 5K race with him and then watch
Adam while Wade goes to Las Vegas for a bachelor party.
While walking Adam, Bailey stumbles upon a pet store owned by a friendly new guy, Cole. Cole
is cute, but Bailey isn’t in the market for a boyfriend or a new dog. Wade ignores Bailey during
his weekend away, but knows just what to say to get her back in his good graces when he
returns. But when they go to a dinner party, Bailey catches him hitting on another woman.
Finally having had enough of this player, she tells him off and breaks things off with him. Wade
storms out, angry, just as Bailey turns to find Cole. Cole lends a sympathetic ear to Bailey as
she pours her heart out about her latest dating disaster and she admits she wishes she could
find a guy to love her as unconditionally as a dog does.
At the diner, Bailey takes a break from her story and Louie and Nikki are still listening. They
admit they’ve been married for over 30 years. Bailey dives into the next part of her story—
when Wade shows up at her door and asks if she’d like to keep Adam. He’s decided to move in
with another girl and can’t keep the lovable dog. Bailey is annoyed with Wade but immediately
agrees to adopt Adam. She hopes her next boyfriend is more loyal and honest.

Amber invites Bailey to an art gallery opening, hoping Bailey will meet someone there and she
does. Bailey is charmed with intellectual, artsy playwright Jonathan, who invites her to a jazz
lounge for their first date. Bailey fakes an interest in jazz, hoping to impress him. Back at
Bailey’s house, Jonathan meets Adam and confesses he also has a dog—named Eve. Bailey is
excited that they have a love of dogs in common; it just might be the only thing they have in
common.
Bailey invites Jonathan to Dina’s house for dinner with Amber and her boyfriend, but its clear to
everyone that Jonathan’s serious interests and moody personality aren’t ideal for Bailey. Then,
after seeing Jonathan’s new play, which is awful, Bailey realizes Jonathan is much more intense
than she realized. He quickly becomes obsessed with editing the play, blowing off Bailey’s
attempts at romantic dates. Eventually, Jonathan become so self-absorbed that Bailey breaks
up with him. Jonathan brings Eve to her house soon after. The dog was inconsolable after
growing attached to Bailey and Jonathan asks Bailey to adopt her. Bailey can’t refuse.
A month later, Bailey has promised herself not to rush into another relationship, but then meets
Eric, a stunning, athletic man who takes an immediate interest in her. They have a great first
date at the golf range, where Eric teaches Bailey how to swing a club like a pro. After hitting it
off, he asks her out for another date and she happily accepts. Bailey gushes later to Dina about
her new guy. Dina is skeptical again about Bailey’s latest crush.
Excited to see if they are perfect for each other, Bailey invites Eric out to walk Adam and Eve at
the park, but Eric admits he isn’t a big dog lover. Bailey tries to convince Eric to adopt his own
dog and even takes him to Cole’s pet store. Cole loves Adam’s lovable energy, while Eric recoils
from any dog that isn’t a well-behaved purebred. They leave without a new pet.
Soon, Eric wants Bailey to meet his family at their country club and hints he is ready for
marriage. Eric’s wealthy parents and grandparents are quietly judgmental of Bailey’s humble
background and profession, but Eric assures her they loved her. Then, at his birthday party at
his parent’s home, Eric surprises everyone when he introduces his new dog that his own mother
helped him find. Bailey is upset that Eric found a dog without her, but Eric lets her pick the
dog’s name: Shirley. Eric saves the real surprise for after his elaborate birthday dinner. Just
before he blows out his candles, he pulls out an engagement ring for Bailey.
As they start planning the wedding, it suddenly isn’t looking anything like what Bailey imagined
for herself. Eric meticulously plans each detail his way, acting as if the wedding itself is just
something to check off his perfect list. When the dogs’ playing disrupts his carefully thoughtout seating chart, Eric explodes. He declares he never wanted a dog in the first place and can’t
stand when they aren’t trained. Bailey suddenly realizes he hates dogs and isn’t sure their
future is so bright, while Eric accuses her of loving dogs more than people. Bailey storms away
from him, but first, asks to adopt Shirley, seeing Eric doesn’t like her.
Talking to her mom, Bailey realizes that maybe Eric was just too much of a good thing and was
pushing marriage when she wasn’t ready. But when she takes her three dogs on a walk, she
bumps into Cole, who is surprised Eric adopted Shirley when he wasn’t even a dog-lover. He

suggests that means he really cared for Bailey. Bailey considers this as she gets home and
finds Eric waiting for her with flowers. They make up as Eric confesses he may not love dogs,
but he loves Bailey.
When the wedding day arrives, Bailey is nervous as she gets ready with Amber and Dina,
suddenly questioning if Eric is her soulmate. Bailey walks down the aisle, but when it comes to
say “I do,” she panics and realizes she isn’t really in love—she was just trying to fit the mold of
his perfect girlfriend. Bailey rushes back up the aisle with the dogs following at her heels and
out into the pouring rain.
As Bailey finishes her story, Louie and Nikki are touched. Bailey has realized she can’t find the
right guy unless she stays true to herself. Bailey is warmed by Louie and Nikki’s timeless love,
and hopes she can find a love like that someday. But Nikki tells her they were friends for a
while before the thought actually occurred to her that Louie might be the one. Just then, a
lone customer sitting in the back of the diner appears in front of Bailey and she is surprised to
see it is Cole, from the pet store. He’s heard every word she just said and admits he’s had the
biggest crush on her. She is taken aback, but in a good way, and can’t believe she didn’t see
how handsome and kind he was before—not to mention his love for dogs rivals her own. As
Nikki and Louie look on, Cole asks Bailey to come meet his new dog and she can’t resist. With
their whole future in front of them, they walk out into the starry night.
