July`s Newsletter - St Marks International College: Perth

Welcome …
to GEOS Perth
JULY 2004
Visit by the The Consul General of Switzerland
On his official visit to
Western Australia, the
Honorary Consul of
Switzerland, Mr Peter
Casaulta paid a visit to
St. Mark’s International
College. Mr Casaulta
was impressed by the
College and its beautiful
surroundings, though
the highlight of his visit
was meeting with our
Swiss students over
morning tea and hearing
about their experiences
in Perth and their
studies at St. Mark’s.
St. Mark’s International College was one
of the two academic institutions on the
Consul General’s schedule for Perth, the
other being Edith Cowan University.
St. Mark’s has long been popular with the
Swiss who are attracted to the Cambridge
Exam courses the College offers.
Marina Abrashkina has a long history with St.
Mark’s and is now going to combine a
Masters degree with her part-time work at the
College.
Marina first came to Perth as part of the Uzbekistan national swimming team during
the FINA Swimming World Championships held in Perth in 1998. She loved Perth
so much that she decided to come back to Perth and study English at St. Mark’s.

Marina studied General English at St. Marks and then went on to
complete the Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English. She continued
to work at St. Mark’s and is now the Regional Marketing Assistant for
GEOS Oceania. Marina has recently been accepted into a Masters in
Accounting programme at Curtin University starting in August.
Everyone at St. Mark’s would like to congratulate Marina on her
enormous success since she first came to Australia 6 years ago!
Students from a recent Cambridge Exam Class
(CAE) were so happy with their teacher, Colin that
they presented him with a tie (that they all signed)
as a thank you gift.
Andrew, Director of Studies at St. Mark’s, also got
a signed tie for his efforts!
Andrew and Colin are now too cool for school!
