Ever seen a fish spend a fortune trying to hook a human!! How fast do fish swim? It is estimated that the fastest fish (tuna, marlin, swordfish, mackerel) swim in excess of 50 kph, but the Sailfish and Wahoo can exceed 90 kph. The average fish would be pushed to reach 20 kph ANNUAL PRIZE WINNERS FOR THE 2013-2014 SEASON Congratulations to all the winners both Senior & Junior - remember you can weigh fish in at the Tathra Beach Country Club for the current season OPEN JUNIOR Gerard SNAPPER Sproules 0.935 Adam Daniel MORWONG McAuliffe 2.4 McAuliffe 0.600 SAND FLATHEAD Rodney Pollard 1.410 Ryan Hanel 0.720 TIGER FLATHEAD Ron Finlayson 1.165 Ryan Hanel 0.730 GURNARD David Dulhunty 0.130 GUMMY SHARK Warren Purcell 2.480 LEATHER Andrew JACKET Lennon 1.040 BREAM Ollie Hinde 1.035 DUSKY Jasper FLATHEAD Brett Dennis 1.54 Dulhunty 1.25 WHITING Peter Menzies 0.610 SALMON Peter Menzies 1.950 Andrew Daniel TAILOR Lennon 0.665 McAuliffe 0.735 Trevally Ollie Hinde 1.270 Luderick Jack Dennis 0.325 Tathra Base is NOT a NSW Rescue Station and as such is not manned 24 hours a day. There is still the occasional leatherjacket but not in the plague proportions they were last season. Good catches of Snapper and Mowies have been landed both north around Goalen Head, and south at White Rock. Tathra Amateur Fishing Club River: Has fished well all over winter and last week saw a lot of nice bream bagged and there is usually some sandy flathead downriver of the bridge. Our Club will be helping DPI release 680,000 baby prawns into the Bega river early in December so prawning should be especially good over summer. Beach: Is always patchy but relatively calm seas have seen some good salmon landed. Beach worms for the sea bream etc are still the preferred bait. Wharf: Always good for a “surprise”catch and a few good size Kingies were hooked last month. Shelf: Plenty of bait fish on the way out at the Tathra Canyons at present but the water is still too cold for the bill fish. "Never leave fish to find fish". Tax Invoices: Some accounts remain unpaid so come on and pay up otherwise give the Secretary a ring on 64941214. Swimmers at Kianniny - Sorry to have to repeat this warning but it gets worse every year Skippers please keep a good watch out for swimmers when you’ re entering the channel and into the bay. We have signs warning swimmers of the dangers of boats but unfortunately some people do not heed the warning. Legally it is a case of the skipper being deemed guilty if a collision does occur. A little boy was sitting on the pavement fishing into a bucket. Along came the vicar and took pity on the wee soul and gave him some money. "How many have you caught today young man?" he asked as he patted him on the head. "You're the fourth," he replied All the best for 2015
