Psalm 66 - Belfast City Vineyard

life group discussions: Psalm 66
Aim:
To explore the psalmists response found in Psalm 66.
This discussion guide is written with questions to ask the group in bold, along with
possible responses (in italics) that may/should be discussed pertaining to the text.
They are for your (the facilitator/leader) benefit so that you can get to the meat of
the text in a short period of time with your group. Feel free to add different questions
to cater to the needs of your group. These italicised comments are by no means
exhaustive, but are there to provide a loose framework to discuss the practical and
personal application of the text. I hope these lead to some meaningful discussions.

Psalm 66
Questions:
1)
Have someone read Psalm 66. What comes to mind as you hear these verses?
2)
How would you describe the attitude and emotions of the psalmist concerning
their relationship with God? Explain.
3)
What does the psalmist seem to focus on throughout the Psalm? Explain your
answer.
4)
Someone read verse 20 aloud. In all honesty, how well are you able to accept
and live in the reality that God loves you in a deep way? Why?
5)
Do you feel like the balance of your life either in response to God’s love for you,
or striving to try to earn His favour? Explain.
6)
If you think this wouldn’t be weird for your group, you could ask your group to
take 3 minutes to write down everything that they have thanked God for this week.
You could then bring the group back together and ask how it went, asking them if
they find it easy or hard to be thankful and then ask them to explain.
7)
Do you find it easy it easy or difficult to interact with God on the same level as
the psalmist in this Psalm? Do you want this to change?
8)
How would peoples’ lives change around your response toward Jesus looked
like this psalm?
