HIPPOCAMPUS READING FOUNDATION, BANGALORE
Grow By Reading (GBR) is a complete activity-based library program designed by the Hippocampus Reading
Foundation, Bangalore. Through this programme Hippocampus aims to assess the reading levels of children,
lead them to read books at their skill levels, and help improve their reading comprehension and fluency at a
pace that they are comfortable with.
The programme is available in English, Hindi, Kannada and Tamil.
The programme defined six reading levels denoted by the colours Green, Red Orange, White, Blue and Yellow
(G.R.O.W.B.Y). the starting level is Green, which includes books with an average of ten simple words per page.
With each level, the number of words and complexity of language increases while the number of illustrations
decrease. The highest level is Yellow which comprises chapter books or short story collections.

Bookworm is a children's library in Taleigao, Goa whose work focuses on promoting reading literacy and a love
for books. The projects include Libray in Schools (LiS), which is a programme to set up the reading corners in
under-resourced schools throughout Goa, and offer support to teachers and a Mobile Outreach Program which
takes the experience of storytelling and books to the children of some of the poorest scoio-economic groups in
Goa.
As part of its reading literacy programmes, Bookworm has created a Read Aloud component in all their
activities. They carefully select books that meet the requirements for this programme.
