They will experience Latin conversations on topics ranging from themes in literature and art all the way to the routines and activities of daily life and will enjoy the benefits of reading and discussing texts in the target language. No previous experience in speaking Latin is necessary. For the Summer Latin Workshop, the text will be Prudentius’ “Psychomachia.” This miniature epic of 915 hexameter lines dramatizes the “Battle of the Soul,” pitting colorful and articulate dramatizations of the virtues and vices in mortal combat. The first week of the program, focusing on Caesar as a man of letters and the monuments of the Roman provincia, takes place in Aix-en-Provence.
