THE IUCN RED LIST OF THREATENED SPECIES™ Taxonomy Kingdom Phylum Class Order Family Animalia Chordata Reptilia Squamata Gekkonidae Taxon Name: Gekko smithii Gray, 1842 Synonym(s): • Gecko stentor • Platydactylus albomaculatus • Platydactylus stentor Common Name(s): • English: Large Forest Gecko, Smith's Green-eyed Gecko Taxonomic Notes: It has been suggested that this species may in fact cover more than one species (Ota 1989). Assessment Information Red List Category & Criteria: Least Concern ver 3.1 Year Published: 2010 Date Assessed: June 30, 2009 Justification: Gekko smithii has been assessed as Least Concern because of its wide range, the fact that threats are unlikely to be impacting this species on a global scale, and because it is able to tolerate degraded habitat. Further research should, however, be carried out to determine population and habitat status. Geographic Range Range Description: This species has been recorded from Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore and Myanmar. Country Occurrence: Native: Indonesia (Jawa, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Sumatera); Malaysia (Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak); Myanmar; Singapore; Thailand © The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species: Gekko smithii – published in 2010. http://dx.doi.org/10.2305/IUCN.UK.2010-4.RLTS.T178240A7504944.en 1 Distribution Map © The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species: Gekko smithii – published in 2010. http://dx.doi.org/10.2305/IUCN.UK.2010-4.RLTS.T178240A7504944.en 2 Population This species is common in parts of its range (R. Stuebing pers. comm. 2008). Current Population Trend: Unknown Habitat and Ecology (see Appendix for additional information) This species inhabits forest and forested areas. Systems: Terrestrial Threats It is unlikely that a major threat is causing significant declines in this species across its range. Conservation Actions (see Appendix for additional information) This species currently has no conservation measures in place for it. It may be found in protected areas in parts of its range. More research is needed into its taxonomy, habitat status and threats. Credits Assessor(s): Richman, N. & Böhm, M. Reviewer(s): Collen, B. & Ram, M.
