Year 7-11 Welcome to our programme of free activities for schools, academies and colleges. We offer interventions covering information, advice and guidance, higher education and a subject specific focus. We may be able to support some of your travel costs and additional support for targeted schools and students. All about uni talk Our Student Ambassadors will deliver this fastpaced, interactive talk looking at what higher education is and how to get there in a way that is accessible for the audience. Animation workshop Students design their own BB8 robot and produce an animated story or character in small groups. This workshop combines computer skills with art, storytelling and imagination. Assorted Lego® robotics workshops Students will solve challenges using their programming, engineering and design skills. We run a number of different workshops on a variety of themes. Open to Years 7 - 11. Books & Stories scheme The scheme pairs our Student Ambassadors with small groups who need some extra help to achieve in Key Stage 2 reading. Weekly sessions focus on guided reading and fun activities to support reading development. Choosing options Drama: Keys to success We sponsor Enact Solutions to deliver their drama performance. The production is designed to inspire and promote the benefits of choosing the right GCSE options and continued learning post-16. Festival of Learning Health & Wellbeing Day This day is all about improving wellbeing and health. Your students will do something they have never done before whether that be Raveminton, Kung Fu, or Bollywood dancing. Get set scheme We sponsor Young Enterprise to deliver this hands-on scheme, which aims to support young people in taking steps to get ready for their future careers. Students learn from business and industry representatives, as well as current students. Healthcare workshop Designed to incorporate not only the well known Health & Social Care fields, such as nursing and social work, but to also include occupational therapy and paramedic science. HE Experience Day Students get a real taste of uni life, including information on finance, a campus tour, group work activities and Q&A session with Student Ambassadors. Talk to us if you’d like to bring other year groups or open up this visit to more than 60 students. Information, Advice & Guidance interviews Our fully qualified and impartial Careers Adviser can provide group work and individual sessions for high priority students. Mentoring scheme Summer Breaks BU Student Mentors act as role models, working with small groups of students to develop their skills and confidence in preparation for further and higher education. An opportunity for your students to experience university life and includes a number of subject workshops plus social and sports events for them to enjoy as part of their four-day/three-night residential stay. Parents evening talk Tank Museum Lego® robotics engineering challenge We can give higher education talks aimed at parents/carers at parents evenings or other events. Revision skills with parents/carers An interactive workshop aimed at parents/ carers - and their children - helping them give the right support during the run-up to exams. This is a fun session, which takes places at school in the evening. ScratchJam Students create games on an unknown theme using Scratch programming software. Competition between schools is tough so it is a great challenge for students with strong computer skills. Soap workshop The cosmetic industry is an ideal example to demonstrate the close ties between science and business. Students will create their own soap design and learn the chemistry behind soap and the diversity of STEM careers. Stepping up This workshop focusses on introducing students to research and independent learning skills as they move on to 6th Form or prepare for higher education. Student life and finance talk Provides a broad overview of higher education, student life and finance, plus the opportunity to hear from current students. Held at The Tank Museum in Bovington, students work in teams of six to design and build a programmable robot to tackle our unique tank obstacle course. Tutoring scheme Our Student Ambassadors and Mentors can provide additional support in English, Maths, Science and other subjects. Talk to us about your needs. Who Killed Rudolph? Students will become forensic investigators for the day working to solve the murder of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. This day encompasses many forensic techniques from looking at fingerprints to detecting poisons. Work experience scheme BU offers a variety of work experience placements, typically lasting one week. These are advertised through Education Business Partnership (www.ebpnational.org.uk) or contact us directly for further information. Workshops We offer other workshops tailored to the target audience. These will be as interactive as possible and cover (but aren’t exclusive to) the following topics: Budget challenge, Choosing options, How to choose your uni, Interview skills and confidence building, Revision skills, Uni life. We can also provide speakers to cover a range of topics including talks aimed at parents and carers (Yr 10-13).
