MASSES OF THANKSGIVING FOR
PATRONS OF SACRED MUSIC
In thanksgiving for your generous support, all Patrons of Sacred Music will be remembered at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass on Gaudete Sunday, the 3rd Sunday
of Advent, at 11:00 a.m. as well as on Pentecost Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Both
Masses will be offered at St. John Cantius Church.

The name and donor category of each Patron of Sacred Music will be listed in all
music programs unless a Patron wishes to remain anonymous.
A Patrons of Sacred Music welcome packet is usually mailed after the receipt of

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam
The Patrons of Sacred Music have taken as their
motto, Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam (i.e., “For the
Greater Glory of God), since they seek to promote and foster the musical patrimony of the Roman Catholic Church in all of its splendor.
Out of that musical treasury flows not only the
sublime Gregorian Chant and Renaissance Polyphonic works of composers such as Palestrina
and Victoria, but also the Viennese Classical masterpieces for choir and orchestra,
revealing the creative genius of men such as Schubert, Beethoven and Mozart.
Hoping to see the organic development of this musical heritage flower in our present
day in continuity with the Church's history, and transcending limitations of time and cultures, the musicians of St. John Cantius also sing stunning choral works by contemporary composers such as Eric Whitacre, Sir John Tavener and Piere Villette.
We understand this universality in Catholic music for worship as one facet of the
obedience of faith, listening to the constant tradition of our Holy Mother the
Church, who proudly adorns her Sacred Liturgies with the beautiful melodies and
harmonies prized so highly by the Latin Rite.
2010-2011 Season of Sacred Music
Knowing that the restoration of Sacred Liturgical Music at St. John Cantius did not
occur overnight when we began to reintroduce Chant and Polyphony to the parish
liturgy in 1988, the Patrons of Sacred Music, in this 22nd consecutive musical season, wish to thank our musicians:
