the endorsement of the Democratic
party for the appointment as postmaster of Huntington village , defeating a minority group of the Democratic
party by a total vote of 81814 to 654%.
The other contestant for the job is
Clifford Sommis, former receiver of
taxes and prominent Democratic leader In Huntington for many years.
Forty Riverhead farmers watched an

While eight employees of Frank
Buck's Jungle Camp ot Massopequa
held down a 29-foot python , Mr. Buck
pried open the creature 's month and
treated it for injuries sustained when
it bit the sharp end of a tr ee limb in
its cage. Several hundred visitors
watched the opera tion Upon the 400-lb.
snake on Thu rsday. The two other
reptiles In the snake 's cage took no
notice when attendants entered the
enclosure to get th e "patient ," nor did
they move when the python was returned. Following the treatment it was
returned to the ' cage, and almost Immediately went to sleep.
George Ketcham , 18 years old, of
Huntington Station , died on Thursday
night at the Huntington Hospita l of
injuries sustained earlie r in the day
in an automobile collision in South
Huntington.
His companion , George
Jatsko , 19, of the some village, is in
a critical condition in the same hospital. John Brown , 49 driver of the car
which collided with Ketcham'a machine, sustained minor injuries. He
was arrested on a technical charge of
second degree manslaughter. Virginia
Axum , who accompanied Brown , suffered a fractured J aw and severe lacerations.
Charles D. Cords , a Brooklyn attorney, is the new owner of the "Monastery, " the 14-acre estate on the Shore
road at Halesite , formerly occupied by
the late Mrs. Juliana Armour Ferguson. An attemp t was made to sell the
piece at aucti on on June 8th, when
the New York Trust Company, cotrustees of Mrs. Ferg uson's estate , bid
it in for $17,000. It is understood that
a client of Mr. Cords is interested in
the property.
The Long Island Poultry Associatio n
is cooperating with the Suffolk County
Farm Bureau to hold its annual meeting and dinner for poultrymen , July

State Park will be held on Tuesday,

Robert Sullivan , 29 years old, of Port

of Riverhead , Coun ty Agricultural Conservat ion Agent , states that farmers
who do not file wor kt sheets by that
date are not eligible to receive cash
paym ent from the Federal Govern ment for conserving their soils. The
farmer incurs no obligation in filling
out.a work sheet , and the sheet does
not even , have to be signed by the
farmer, unless he so desires, according
to Mr. '. Mather. Five hundred Suffolk
County - farmers have filled out work
sheets 1 to dote, an d payments will average between fifty and sixty dollars per
farm. Payments vary from $10.00 to
$200.00 per farm depending on the extent to which the farmer is willing to
