The
Walk-In
Ministry
is now
Prevail was founded in November 2005 as the Oak Park
River Forest Area Walk-In Ministry. Local faith communities
saw the need for a centralized location to refer individuals
seeking basic assistance, such as food, shelter, transportation
and clothing. Walk-In Ministry became an independent
501(c)3 social services organization in 2007. The Walk-In
Ministry changed its name to Prevail in April of 2013. Clients
are referred to Prevail from local townships, social service
agencies, area faith communities and businesses, as well as
through word of mouth on the street. Since our inception,
our volunteers have assisted more than 4,000 clients
(representing over 8,000 individual visits) with needs ranging
from affordable health care, to identification assistance to
eviction prevention.
Each of our programs have
multiple opportunities for direct
one-on-one interaction with
clients or behind-the-scenes
agency support. We provide
in-depth on-the-job training as
well as ongoing support,
communication and education
to fully equip each volunteer
for the task at hand.
