VOLUNTEER MANAGER – Part time

The Volunteer Department at the National Trust- Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary (CWS) is one of the leading voluntary
organisations on the Gold Coast. Over 400 volunteers work within 3 specialised programs operating 7 days a week,

Position details:
This role of Volunteer Manager has the primary focus of providing supervision, direction, support and
training specifically across the Park Volunteer and Teen Volunteer programs. This is a ‘hands on’ role, and
will involve walking around the Sanctuary each shift to communicate with the Volunteers, to provide on the
job training and to support the Duty Volunteers on each shift to effectively coordinate their teams. You will
be working within an amazing workplace surrounded by Aussie wildlife with a wonderful team of motivated,
willing and friendly vollies. You will ensure that your team consisting of 180 Park Volunteers and 20 Teen
Volunteers have all resources available to enjoy their roles and to deliver a consistent, quality visitor
experience. Other core duties include associated administration elements of the role such as writing the
weekly email update, keeping policies and procedures up to date and actively supporting the Volunteer
teams involved with recruitment and training. You will work as the second member of the Volunteer
Manager team; this structure provides support and backup for both Managers.
This is a permanent Part-time position, based on working a 50 hour fortnight.
 Work shifts will range from 4 -6 hours per day, on a fortnightly rotating roster, covering Monday through to
Sunday, enabling you to connect with all volunteer teams. This roster requires working one weekend per
fortnight for 4 hours each day, with the other weekend free.
 Rate of pay is Level 4 or 5 of Award, based on experience. Sunday penalty rates apply. Uniform is provided.
 This is an outdoor role in a non-smoking environment. Non-smokers are preferred.
Selection Criteria:
1. Previous experience as a Supervisor / Event Coordinator, or a role organising large teams or multiple
departments is required.
2. Previous experience working as a volunteer or with a volunteer organisation will be highly regarded.
3. Work within a customer service based industry such as Tourism/ Hospitality is required.
4. Must be a ‘change champion’; have the ability to gently and successfully introduce and support changes to work
processes.
5. Previous experience in delivering workplace or vocational training will be highly regarded.
6. Must have medium level skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook & Power Point.
7. Essential to have a friendly and supportive approach to managing others.
8. Appropriate fitness to walk long distances; stand for long periods, & willing to work in all weathers.
9. High level ability to communicate both written and verbally in a courteous and professional manner.
10. Strong teamwork & negotiation skills, along with patience & problem solving ability.
11. A positive ‘can-do’ attitude, a sense of humour and ability to bring a sense of fun to the role is essential.
12. Must be comfortable working with all Australian Wildlife including birds and reptiles.
13. Flexible availability is essential – requirement to work peak periods which include weekends and school holidays.
