SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE COMMUNITY

RESOURCE DIRECTORY/GUIDE OF SECLECTED GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES AND
NOT FOR PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS ADDRESSING THE UNMET NEEDS OF THE
SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE COMMUNITY
To the residents of the Smith Mountain Lake Community:
In March 2012 the Rotary Club of Smith Mountain Lake completed a study and published a
summary of the unmet needs of the Smith Mountain Lake Community. These needs included
basic individual and family needs, the need for transportation, the needs of children and their
parents, the need for mental health services, and the needs of seniors and the broader community.
This Directory is an effort to identify some of the major governmental and not-for-profit
agencies available to Lake Residents that address the needs identified in the study.
In addition, as a guide to those interested in volunteering and/or making charitable contributions
we have also identified those not-for-profit organizations looking for volunteers and provided a
limited amount of financial information about these same not-for-profits.
We hope you find this Directory/Guide helpful.
Case Pieterman, President 2011-2012
