The students should ask questions during office hour and/or tutorial sessions instead of going to T.A.s’ labs. Class Starts and Ends Friday, January 6 to Tuesday, April 4. Examinations There will be two 2-hour examinations; they will be held respectively on March 3 and during the April examination period. The mid-term exam will cover the material up to a week before the exam date and the final exam is cumulative covering all material taught in the entire course. The mid-term exam will weigh 34% of total grade and the final exam will weigh 50% of the total grade. Problem Sets There are two take–home problem sets and two quizzes throughout the term, one approximately every eight lectures. The problems sets weigh 16% of total grade. These problem sets will consist of questions and problems based upon the lectures and readings. . We will assess your understanding of the material on the problem sets in two ways. 1) The mark for two of the problem sets will be based on the work that you do outside of class. Take-home problem sets handed in after 5:00 p.m. the day they are due will not be graded, and will be assigned a score of zero. 2) The mark for the two others will be based on your answers to a short 5- to 10-min quiz held immediate before a lecture (TBA) one week after the problem set is distributed to you. Relative Weight of Exams and Problem Sets Mid-term exam Final exam Problem sets (2 take-home and 2 quizzes) 34 % 50 % 16 % Missed Exam Policy As according to Faculty policy, students presenting a valid petition for a missed examination or quiz will be given the opportunity to write a make–up exam or quiz.
