I am happy to be sending
this month’s prayer letter from within the United States!
God has been so good to us by allowing us to serve in the
foreign field, but it is nice to come home every now and again. Each time that we return we are
surprised by how many things have changed as well as at how convenient things are here.
Soul winning is what we consider to be the most important part of our mission. It has been quite different in the
very rural community that we were in. In the big city near by we could hand out stacks of tracks in 10 min, but not get
anyone to stop and talk. Out where we lived there were just not many people. We usually walk door-2-door, but in the
countryside the doors are so far apart that we had to drive between doors. The blessing is that the people out there
are more willing to spend a few minutes talking. Although it was different from what we are used to, during the
month and a half in Mariposa, Chile we have led 18 people to the Lord.
During this time we were with the missionary Robertson family. While there, we tried to make ourselves useful. In
addition to soul winning, I was able to do some work on their house. It was a blessing to put to use the talents God has
given.
We greatly appreciate all of the prayers made for Sandra. In so many ways I would not be able to do what I do
without her help and encouragement. When we left Panguipulli we had already begun to feel a chill in the air (and we
had already sold our fireplace). There was a very notable difference in how Sandra felt when the temperature
dropped. We thank the Lord that He provided a place for us to stay for a while where Sandra could feel decent and
kept the weather warm.
I’d like to share a few answered prayers with you. Several months ago we ordered some vitamins that Sandra
needs, but the package was seized by the government. After three months and a lot of hoops we finally got them about
two weeks before we left for the states. Praise the Lord that we finally received her vitamins, and that she is feeling
much better now that she is back on all of them.
Another answered prayer is that we are assured of the new area where we will minister when we return to Chile. I
was able to visit Arica a few weeks ago on a survey trip during Easter weekend. I learned quite a bit about the city and
people there. Most of my time was interviewing Pastors in the area to see if there was already a soul winning work.
There is not one soul winning church in this large region. While there I was able to see 4 saved and 1 in Peru. What an
amazing experience! We are already excited about returning to start this new work.
As for our time in the states, we were able to get great round trip tickets for what we paid last time for just one
way. In the duration of our trip we were stopped and informed our kids passports were expired. Praise the Lord, the
government waived the fee, permitted us to enter the states and allowed us to keep the passports to make the
renewal process easier. Within four days of being here we found a van to travel in with only 62000 miles on it for just
$5000. One of our supporters covered the majority of the cost for us. We have a beautiful Toyota Sienna.
Praise the Lord and thank you for the prayers for these specific needs.
We look forward to visiting the churches we missed our last time around, as well as some others
on our route. This time with our family and friends is a special time with a lot going on in their lives.
What a blessing to have the chance to be there for them even if just for a short passing through
while.
