show in local movie theaters
Coordinate with local theaters to show your (or other) PSAs before films
which feature smoking
Hold a smoke-free movie night
Send a message to (___): Show studio CEOs that you really care about
smoking in the movies by telling them your thoughts via a YouTube
video! You could also post these videos on the studio’s Facebook or
twitter page. This way the studio heads see that you, their customer
and fan, care about the messages that movies display to children.
Complete movie poster petitions: Collect posters from movies with
smoking in them from theaters and write a petition on the back, telling
the studios that smoking in PG-13 movies needs to stop. Then hold a
press event with your local media, explaining why it’s important that
there be no smoking in movies for children and teenagers.
Hackademy awards: Create your own movie and television awards
show! Give prizes to the youth oriented films that did not show smoking
or portrayed smoking in a negative light. Give “thumbs down awards” to
movies that glamorize smoking the most. A group in California called
Breath California of Sacramento Emigrant Trail holds such a ceremony
