Entering 8 graders have no written assignments due. However, here are three key points to remember: th
1. Entering 8 graders must read The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton (copy provided by MCDS) plus two books from this list 2. Keep a list of everything you read and feel free to read beyond the minimum two book requirement. 3. Read the required text (The Outsiders) at the end of the summer, so that it remains fresh in your memory for September. You will be discussing and writing about this book during the first weeks of school, and it is essential that you be prepared. • Please don't take notes directly in your book-­‐ use post its or flags to note important passages in the story looking for key moments in character and plot development and passages you find especially well written and interesting as well as any passages where you have questions. • Look up words you don't know. • Read actively. *Indicates a book in a series—you may read any book in the series. @
