Welcome to AP11 Language and Composition for the school year

Welcome to AP11 Language and Composition for the school year 20162017 Summer reading provides an early opportunity to be immersed in the type of texts (mostly nonfiction) with which we will be working throughout the school year. It also gives students a chance to become comfortable with and exercise specific skills required throughout the class. There are FOUR parts of the summer assignment:
nonfiction reading (
Night
), Study of Aristotle’s Rhetorical Triangle & SOAPSTone, “A Modest Proposal” assignment, and vocabulary. What you need to know about AP11 Language & Composition at GHS The purpose of this class is to introduce students to a wide variety of collegelevel reading, writing, and analysis. Students are to be aware of the rigorous nature of an AP English course. Reading and writing assignments will be extensive and frequent. There is homework each week and it is checked and/or collected the days it is due. Thoughtful analysis and effort are expected and required. Do not assume that high grades received in previous honors classes is an indicator of an A in this class. A strong work ethic and a commitment to growing as a learner are necessary. Students who are involved in many other schoolrelated activities should develop and rely on excellent timemanagement and study skills. To help prepare yourselves for the rigors and practices of this class, complete the 4 assignments listed below.
