Founded in 1828, the Peterhouse Boat Club has always been
a central part of college life. It has provided an opportunity
to every member of college to experience the increasingly
popular sport of rowing, with the ultimate aim of improving
the club’s standing in the University Lent and May Bumps
races. As one of the smallest colleges in Cambridge, Peterhouse
finds itself challenging the largest colleges on the river, with
both men and women making their way up the first division
in May Bumps.
The Boat Club also proudly sees a few Petreans every year
compete against Oxford. This year the Club was especially
pleased to see three home-grown talents don the light blue
lycra at Henley. Former Captain Kate Ashley took part in the
last University Women’s Boat Race before the move to the
Thames next year. Petreans also made up a quarter of the Men’s
Lightweight boat, with both Andrei Lebed and Emanuel Malek
helping to secure a comfortable win over Oxford.
Many who have been members of the Boat Club in the
past will remember the warm social atmosphere that lies
behind many pleasant memories, and while they may no
longer row at Peterhouse, we would kindly invite them to
continue to take an interest and support the current Boat
Club towards further success.
