Social Studies
Throughout Term 3 we will be focussing on
People Who Help Us in our Local
Community. This will allow us to develop an
understanding of the people and
organisations who help us in the
community and the ways in which they
help. We will also examine the difference
between needs and wants and categorise
the broad range of people who help us to
address these needs and wants.
Science
Our science focus this term will be Forces.
We will learn all about pushing and pulling
and the effect that a simple push or pull
can have on the shape, speed or direction
of an object. Through exploring a range of
toys and investigating an array of surfaces,
we will learn all about friction, velocity and
acceleration.
French
This term we will continue to join in with
stories, songs, rhymes and games to
develop our French vocabulary!
RME
Our focus this term will be Islam. We will be
exploring the key beliefs and traditions of
Islam and investigating some of the special
festivals and celebrations.
Literacy
In Term 3 our P1s will continue to deepen their knowledge and understanding of
initial sounds and continue developing an understanding of, and using, digraphs.
We will continue to use the Say, Make/Break, Blend, Read, Write methodology to
develop our awareness of CVC and common words and will apply what we have
learned to spell simple unseen and unfamiliar words. We will continue to spend
time on simple dictation too!
Through our reading programme, we will continue to recognise, identify and read
a wide selection of common words, whilst considering the features of simple
punctuation. Using a range of word attack strategies will also allow us to read a
variety of uncommon words. We will continue to focus on comprehension and
apply our knowledge and understanding to written follow up tasks. We will spend
time learning all about alphabetical order too!
Our writing programme will see us continuing to focus on the basic conventions of
writing: left to right, capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. We will use our
common words, as well as our own ideas, to write simple sentences allowing us to
extend our pieces of writing. Our genre focus this term will be narrative.
Numeracy & Mathematics
This term we will continue to spend time recognising coins and calculating simple
amounts of money, within 10p. We will be revising time using ‘o’clock’ and
continuing to identify the correct day, date, month, season, etc.
We will develop an understanding of subtraction within 10, linking this to our
number stories. We will be using what we learn to help us give change
from set amounts of money.
We will then begin to look at position and movement, describing
positions and giving basic positional instructions. We will look at
symmetry before moving on to investigate simple fractions such as
halves and quarters.
Health & Wellbeing Our PE days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays. For your child’s safety and comfort, please ensure that they
bring appropriate PE kit on these days. Please also remember that all jewellery must be removed and there is no safe place to leave it within the
class. Earrings must be removed; if this is not possible, please provide your child with plasters to cover them. In PE this term we will be focussing
on Athletics. We will be putting what we have learned to good use on Sports Day!
We will continue our RSHP programme which focuses on people who care for us i.e. family and friends. We will also look at the similarities and
differences between individuals, before moving on to look at why it is important to keep ourselves clean and healthy.
