3. Stock Photo Tutorial #1 Bunnies: Teacher-led
a. Goal – utilize masks to hide/reveal objects
i. Using Filters
ii. Layer Masks for special effects
iii. Gradient Tool
iv. Introduction to Adjustment Layers
b. LO: students create and utilize layer masks to hide/reveal objects and effects.
4. The Beach Revisited: Student exercise
a. Goal – utilize layer masks to create special effects as learned in Stock Photo
Tutorial #1 – Bunnies.
i. Layer Masks
ii. Import pictures
b. LO: students create special effects using layer masks and filter effects.
5. The Watch: Student exercise
a. Goal – utilize masks, clipping masks, blend modes, opacity, and mask painting to
create a composite image.
b. LO: students utilize intermediate blending techniques to create a composite
image of a watch, clouds and secondary objects.
6. Pears: Student exercise
a. Goal – use filters to create special effects across a grid of pears.
b. LO: students utilize filter and painting effects to complete a montage of special
effects on pears.
7. Mistic Night: Student exercise
a. Goal – apply advanced painting, masking, and adjustment layers
i. Vary Brush Opacity, Size, and Hardness settings using shortcuts
ii. Channel Mixer Adjustment Layer to turn a picture into black and white
iii. Blur Filters to create mist in conjunction with custom brushes
b. LO: students utilize layer masks, adjustment layers, and advanced painting
techniques to transform a photo from day to a “mistic night”.
8. Watercolor Vase: Student exercise
a. Goal – use filters and masks to create the illusion of a watercolor painting.
i. Create use of filters with various Layer Blend Modes
ii. Masks used to blend the filtered effects
b. LO: students utilize masks and filters to turn a portrait photograph into a
watercolor-like painting.
9. Introduction to Photo Fixes – Marcella and Ali: Teacher-led
a. Goal – use adjustment layers to fix a photograph with a red cast.
i. Levels and Color Balance Adjustment Layers
ii. Targeted Selections and re-painting color back into a photo
b. LO: students will examine the channels of a photograph and utilize adjustment
layers to improve/fix damaged channels. Additionally, students will paint back in
any lost or missing color.
10. Introduction to Photo Painting – Makeup: Teacher-led
a. Goal – use solid color adjustment layers to paint makeup on a portrait
i. Solid Color Adjustment Layer
ii. Curves Adjustment Layer
iii. Clone/Healing Brush Layers
b. LO: student will use solid color adjustment layers to paint makeup onto a model.
11. Teen Portrait: Student exercise
a. Goal – apply basic photo fixes (makeup and corrections) to a portrait as learned
from the class demonstrations Introductions to Photo Fixes and Introduction to
Photo Painting.
b. LO: students will apply color corrections and enhancements to a portrait.
12. Introduction to Morphing – HippoLizard: Teacher-led
a. Goal – Composite two images to create a new creature through Adjustment
Layers, Blend Modes, and Masking.
b. LO: students will create a composite image of a hippopotamus and a lizard using
Adjustment Layers, Blend Modes, Masking.
13. Tiger Woman: Student exercise
a. Goal – apply basic morphing/compositing techniques to create a half-woman,
half-tiger image.
b. LO: students will utilize basic compositing techniques in order to composite two
images into one.
14. Create Your Own Animal: Student exercise
a. Goal – create a unique animal composite image using two or more animals from
different sources.
b. LO: students will find, utilize, and composite two or more animal images in order
to create a unique animal.
