Peace Week:
At the beginning of Peace Week, students were asked “What does peace mean?” An
acronym was created, and this spelled out five qualities
that had to do with peace. Each day a new letter was
revealed, and this specific trait was exemplified throughout the day. On Monday, students learned about participation. They listened to the story “Only One Me” and
made rocks to show that they are each unique. On
Tuesday students learned about empathy by watching
videos during lunch. On Wednesday, students learned
about advocacy. They made footprints that listed one
way they can help another student. On Thursday, students wrote uplifting messages to each other on a poster in order to practice the trait of community. On Friday,
students learned about empowerment, and were given candy with messages about spreading peace. The week was very positive and reminded students about what peace really
means.

Christmas Shop:
This year, the 8th grade decided to run a
Christmas shop for grades VPK through

trip to Universal later this year. The 8th
graders purchased items and then
helped the elementary students shop
for Christmas gifts for their parents.
The kids also played games, such as
“Elf, Elf, Snowman.” The shop was run
on donations, and all of the kids loved
it. Thank you to all of the students who
donated to the 8th grade trip!

Children’s Book:
In Ms. DeLoach’s English class, 8th
graders wrote children’s books.
They were required to make up a
story that would appeal to younger
children and contained a suitable
moral. After writing the story, they
had to type, print, and illustrate the
pages. Then, after putting it together, the 8th grade students read
them to VPK through 3rd grade.
The kids loved the stories, and the
books looked great!
Political Cartoon:
This month, the 8th grade made political cartoons on current events this year. They
presented them to the class, and the class voted for their favorites. The two winners
were Charlotte Maneely for her “Progress” cartoon and Harlow Hatin for her “2016
Presidential Election; Hamburger.” Great job!
