CALCASIEU SOCCER CLUB GOAL SAFETY POLICY

CALCASIEU SOCCER CLUB
GOAL SAFETY POLICY
Calcasieu Soccer Club recommends use of these guidelines regarding the installation, use and
storage of soccer goals by all of its members. As advocates for the healthy development of
children, we should all be concerned with soccer goal safety.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), most soccer goal related
deaths and injuries involved either unsecured or homemade goals. Injuries frequently
occurred during horseplay such as climbing on the goal or attempting to do chin-ups, thereby
tipping the goal over. All goals, whether homemade or manufactured, should be properly
secured to the ground to avoid injuries or deaths associated with tip-over.
Coaches, officials, parents, players and CSC affiliates should follow these safety guidelines:
1. Goals must be inspected by coaches prior to and at the conclusion of each soccer
practice to ensure they are safe for use. Goals found to be unsafe should be avoided and
a CSC or Ward 3 or City official notified ASAP. Coaches should NEVER conduct a practice
or game on a field where the goals are unsecured or unsafe
2. Goals should NOT BE MOVED. Movable soccer goals should only be moved by
authorized officials of CSC, Ward 3 or the City of Lake Charles.
3. Never permit anyone to climb or swing on the net or goal framework.
4. Instruct players to avoid use of unsecured and unsafe goals.
5. Ensure safety/warning labels are clearly visible.
6. Remove nets between seasons when goals are not in use.
7.
Store movable soccer goals in a place where children cannot access them.
