To minister to our congregation and our community through music. To promote the growth of our music ministry and to actively recruit new members. To strive for artistic excellence while drawing people closer to Christ. Other information Praise Team rehearses on Wednesday evenings Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings Requirements • A strong belief in Christian values and confesses Jesus Christ as Savior. • Knowledge of the history, beliefs, and musical customs of the United Methodist Church. • Bachelor’s degree in Music or equivalent musical training and experience. • A history of excellence in church music performance and administration, preferably within mainline Protestant denominations. • Good interpersonal and communication skills with adults, youth, and children. • Comprehensive knowledge in the field of Christian music. • Work closely, as a team player, with the Pastor(s), staff, musicians, and others in all matters pertaining to music planning and scheduling. Responsibilities In cooperation with the Pastor(s) and other members of the music ministry, plan and execute both traditional and contemporary music including, but not limited to, the following: • Provide or secure all music and musicians for worship services throughout the year, including Sunday Worship (currently 3 morning services), Christmas Eve, Lenten services, Holy Week services (such as Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunrise), and special services (such as wedding, funeral or memorial services) as needed. • Promote and arrange for special music for times such as Sunday worship, Concert Series, and other activities. • Oversee current music groups as well as seek to expand the membership and types of groups. • Organize, rehearse, and direct, or arrange for direction of the following: Chancel Choir Contemporary Worship Team Handbell Choir Children’s Music and Worship • Prepare an annual budget for the needs of the music ministry, in cooperation with the Finance Committee; manage that budget appropriately. • Cultivate and recruit new members to take part in the music ministry from both the congregation and the community. 1 • • • • • • Develop and maintain a music library for all instrumental and vocal ensembles. Oversee the maintenance and care of all church musical instruments including handbells, organ, piano, keyboards, percussion, etc., in cooperation with the Trustees. Work with the office staff in regards to all printing, including bulletins, programs, advertising, etc. Work in cooperation with the Audio, Visual, and Lighting personnel, as well as the Trustees, to ensure that projection of lyrics, videos, etc. for all worship services is accurate, providing quality sound for worship, and adequate lighting, securing help with technology as needed. Manage subscriptions and licensing where appropriate, and purchase of software, instruments, music, and other items as needed. Perform other tasks as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
