The Studio News Springfield Ceramics and Crafts Club 2626 South Pasfield, Springfield , IL 62704 Summer, 2007 (217) 753-4234 Note from the President I cannot believe that summer is almost over. Where did the days go? I hope everyone had a good one and enjoyed vacations and visits from grandchildren. We are finalizing plans for the start up of the Fall and Winter at the Club. Please read the newsletter carefully to find out all of the details and what you need to do. The Fall Luncheon will be September 5th at Northfield Center. Please make your reservation for lunch by sending a check to Barbara Woodcock in the amount of $14.00, payable to Barb. Mark on the memo line what your menu choice is. Be sure to take home your new Membership Directory. They will be on the tables for you to pick one up. The class list and meeting dates are included in the directory in addition to names of members. The directory is something you just can’t get along without. Fall/Winter Class Sign-up will begin at 11:00 for members; 10:30 for teachers. Be sure to bring small money to pay fees for the classes you sign up for. Bring your calendar so you can keep track of all of the classes - there are many to choose from this year. If you have not exhibited your craft work at the studio, there are opportunities this winter. This space is for projects that you have done away from the studio, not necessarily from classes you have taken. Call Jayne Epperson, to make arrangements for your display. FALL LUNCHEON AND CLASS SIGN-UP The Fall luncheon will take place on September 5, 2007, at Northfield Center . Sign- up for classes begins promptly at 10:30 A.M. for members. All reservations and money must be received no later than August 23rd. Make check payable to Barbara Woodcock and mail to Barb at 248 Golf Road , Springfield , IL 62704 . INDICATE ENTREE ON YOUR CHECK MEMO LINE: FRUIT PLATE OR SLICED TURKEY Springfield Ceramics and Craft Club Class List Fall 2007 I hope you can find classes that you will enjoy, learn a "new" craft, or refresh a previous skill. This year classes are scheduled for mornings, afternoons, and evenings during the week and Saturday. Evening classes are scheduled from 6:00 -8:00 P.M. during daylight saving time. This was a request by some at the Spring Luncheon. Sign up for fall and winter classes will start at 10:30 A.M. before the Fall Luncheon. Please keep a list of the classes you sign up for and attend or let the teacher know if you are not able to attend. All kit fees and cost for the class are due at the sign-up. Please, plan ahead and have cash or a check for the teachers on Sept 5 as supplies must be purchased by the teachers with the kit fees and kits assembled. Supply list for classes with either additional supplies not in the kit or no kit will be available at the Fall Luncheon. Please, keep this list as all classes will be on it. It will remind you of classes selected and others that may have openings during the year. Have a good year Crafting!! Stella Taft Classes without a kit fee will have a supply list available at the sign up day. Some classes with a kit will require additional supplies. Do you have a friend or relative in whose memory you could make a donation? As you update your wills, have you considered a donation to the Endowment Fund? Our goal is $10,000 so that we can use the interest for club expenses and club and/or community projects. For further information, please contact Dot Hasselbring at 5467140. DISPLAY WALL The Club is pleased to exhibit the work of Carol Leach and Louise Donaldson. Carol is displaying her beautiful embroidery pieces. Louise has combined her basket weaving skills and her brilliant stained glass. Their display will continue until the end of October. Our Club is full of talented people. However, few members volunteer to display their talents. We need a member or members to call me at 217-787-0453 (email [email protected]) and offer to display their crafts for the months of November through February, and March through June. Jayne Epperson, Display Chair Community Service Make-a-Thon for Basket of Hope As you all know by now, we are looking forward to our Community Service “Make –A-Thon for Basket of Hope” Wednesday, August 22- 9:00 A.M. - 3:00 P.M. (Kristin Jorgensen @ 364-4707) Bring lunch or go out to lunch and come back for afternoon session. This is a great way to earn class credits and provide a much-needed community service for the Basket of Hope program. You will not be able to take your things home, but we will be taking pictures and will have a photographic display at the Table Setting Luncheon instead of a displayed craft. (If you enjoy taking pictures, we could sure use your help with this aspect. Call K. Jorgensen.) You DO NOT have to actually make something but we will need help cutting out patterns, pinning, ironing, etc. Also, Addie Farris, Director of the Springfield BOH, will be there with all the supplies to make up baskets as new preemie baby items are completed and she would welcome your help with this. Bring any items you have made over the summer to include in the baskets. For all of you who sew, knit, and crochet: What to bring: Sewing machine and/or serger, scissors, thread (light colors), pins, rotary cutters and mats, needles, stuffing pokers, a fringe template if you have one, material -- see collection list below. LABEL ALL SUPPLIES WITH YOUR NAME!!! COLLECTION LIST: Material ( fleece (baby prints only), flannel, baby knits (like Carter’s baby things) for onesies, gowns and caps, knit ribbing for around necks, etc., thread in light colors; yarn for baby things (Ask Stella Taft what weight is correct); Sewing/knitting/crocheting patterns for preemie babies (xxs) and small stuffed animals (JoAnn Fabrics and Hobby Lobby put Simplicity and McCall's on sale for $.99 periodically) new or used (with all the pieces) are welcome. If you knit, crochet or hand sew and want a comfortable chair to work in please bring your own lawn chair. If you tend to be cold in the air conditioning, please bring a sweater because the room will be kept cool. Thank you. ANYONE MAY DONATE ITEMS AND SUPPLIES FOR THIS PROGRAM ANYTIME BEFORE AUG 22, AND LEAVE THEM IN BIG BASKET UNDER THE PHONE STAND IN THE COAT ROOM OR CALL KRISTIN AT 364-4707 FOR PICK UP. “Members who come into the club for purposes other than classes are asked to sign the register on the small table next to the phone at the main entrance. Your help will be much appreciated.” Zetta Engle SUN SEPTEMBER 2007 TUES WED THUR MON FRI SAT 1 2 3 4 5 Fall Luncheon 10:00 am 6 7 8 9 10 12 13 14 15 16 17 Caning Class (1 of 3) 1:00 p.m. 11 Stepping Stone 9:30 a.m. 18 19 20 Knitted Wire Bracelet 9:30 a.m. 21 Loom Weaving 1:00 p.m. 22 27 Ceramics (1 of 2) 9:30 a.m. 28 29 23 24 Loom Weaving 9:30 a.m. SUN MON CreativeClay Beginning Knitting 9:30a.m. 9:30 a.m. Christmas Sock (1 of 2) 6:00 p.m. 25 26 Christmas Sock (2 of 2 6:00 p.m.) Beginning Smocking (1 of 3) 6:00 p.m. TUES OCTOBER 2007 WED THUR FRI SAT 1 2 3 4 Paper Halloween Treat Basket Embroidery 9:30 a.m. 9:30 a.m. 5 Decoupage Ornament 9:30 a.m. 6 Bead Happy Bracelet (1 of 2) 9:30 a.m. Ribbon Necklace (1 of 2) 6:00 p.m 7 14 21 28 8 Quilted Halloween Wall Hanging 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. 15 22 Celtic Pillow (1 of 2) 9:00 a.m. 29 Caning Class (2 of 3) 1:00 p.m. 9 Beginning Smocking (2 of 3) 6:00 p.m. 10 11 Genealogy thru pictures 9:30 a.m. 12 Spindle Snowman 9:30 a.m. 13 Bead Happy Bracelet (2 of 2) 9:30 a.m. 16 Creative Clay (2 of 2) 9:30 a.m. Board Meeting 10:00 a.m. 17 Ribbon Necklace (2 of 2) 6:00 p.m. 18 19 20 23 Beginning Smocking (3 of 3) 6:00 p.m. 30 24 Polymer Clay Ornament/Pin 9:30 a.m. 25 Ceramics (2 of 2)9:30 a.m. 31 Embossed Velvet 9:30 a.m. 26 27 SUN NOVEMBER 2007 TUES WED THUR MON 4 5 6 Gift Boxes 1:00 p.m. 7 11 12 Caning Class (3 of 3) 14 18 19 Loom Weaving 1:00 p.m. 13 Ribbon Weaving (2 of 2) 20 27 28 Board Meeting 10:00 a.m. 25 Celtic Pillow (1 of 2) 1:00 p,m. 26 21 FRI SAT 1 Bashful Santa Plaque 1:00 p.m. 8 Basket Weaving 9:00 a.m. Ribbon Weaving (1 of 2)1:00 p.m. 15 Decoupage Plate 1:00 p.m. 22 2 Woven Yarn Stole 9:30 a.m. 9 Basket Weaving 9:00 a.m. Xmas Table Arrangement 1:00 p.m. 3 16 17 23 24 29 30 10 DECEMBER 2007 1 2 3 4 5 9 10 11 16 17 18 23 24 30 7 8 12 6 Marbled Wooden Plate 1:00 p.m. 13 Board Meeting 10:00 a.m. Christmas Tea 1:00 pm 14 15 19 20 21 22 25 26 27 28 29 Merry Christmas 31 1/01/2008 Happy New Year If anyone would like to donate stamps to help defray the cost to mail the newsletter (as opposed to e-mailing it), please let Pat Hymans know.
