Jake’s Melons
Jake and Leona West grow many kinds of melons on their farm in
central New Mexico. One of their favorites is a watermelon called
Allsweet. Jake and Leona sell their melons at farmers’ markets.
When people taste their sweet juicy melons, they keep coming

Place 2 cups of the watermelon and the ice cubes
in a blender and pulse until a chunky mixture
forms. Add the remaining 2 cups of watermelon,
lime juice and sugar, if using. Blend until frothy.
Serve immediately.
4 cups seeded watermelon cubes
4 ice cubes
1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
This watermelon cooler is a refreshing drink for
a hot summer day. Watermelon is high in fiber,
vitamins A and C, and is a good source of
potassium. Watermelons are ripe and ready to
eat when the white spot, where the melon has
been resting on the ground, turns from shiny
white to creamy yellow.
