Neil Eschenfelder
Digital Intraoral Photography
Digital Intraoral Photography Course Objectives:
Dentists invest time developing therapeutic skills, managing patient relationships, continuing their education and running their
practices. Digital photography skills, while an interesting past time, often rate lower on dentist activity lists than above mentioned
needs. Yet, properly integrated, digital photo skills make meaningful contributions facilitating all dental practice endeavors.
This course aims to bring basic digital photographic knowledge to any dental practice, explaining, in non technical terms, how
digital cameras, lenses, light sources and other equipment function together bringing patient record keeping, insurance company
communication, lab interaction and patient education into daily work flows.
We’ll cover digital camera types, lens and magnification options, lighting technique do’s and don’ts as well as digital record
keeping and image color management, leaving time for questions and answers.
Neil Eschenfelder
In the photographic industry since 1973 as a professional photographer, educator and salesrep, Neil worked in advertising,
commercial, forensic and sports imaging. Exposed to medical imaging during his lengthy photo equipment retailing career, as far
back as the mid 1980’s Neil instantly became involved with close-up photography as used in intra oral environments as well as
producing courtroom documentation for Utah’s legal community.
Instructing through the University of Utah’s Continuing Education department, Neil began teaching film oriented photography in
June of 1999 and digital photography in 2001 as the new medium gained popular acceptance. Through his daily contact with retail
photo customers, Neil keeps up with rapid development in the imaging industry. He spends several hours of each Lifelong
Learning class demonstrating camera functions to his many students each term. Neil’s education clients include the Utah US
Marshal’s office, The Entrada Institute, Wildlife Conservation Nepal, Utah Dental Association, Utah Dental Lab Association and
others.
Presenting photography instruction to study groups and individual practices within dentistry, Neil helps practices take advantage
of the latest gear, adapting it to individual needs through thorough understanding of the photo industry and daily involvement with
the latest photographic equipment.
Neil works at Pixels Foto & Frame in Sandy, Utah as sales rep and photo consultant. He began the company’s international photo
safari program with a trip to Tanzania, Africa and saw the program develop with repeated trips to Africa, and Nepal as well as
adventures to China, Turkey, Italy and other exotic locations.
